Tenneco Clean Air India Limited has announced the expansion of its flagship corporate social responsibility initiative, ‘Vrikshaaropan Abhiyan’, with a commitment to plant 14,000 native saplings across Pune and Gurugram by the end of the current financial year. The programme is aimed at increasing urban green cover, improving biodiversity and supporting long-term environmental sustainability through scientific plantation and maintenance practices.

The second phase of the initiative was inaugurated at the Army Cantonment Land in Pune in collaboration with the Indian Army and Vaghmi Foundation. Under this phase, 5,000 native saplings will be planted and nurtured at the site to help improve air quality, reduce urban heat, restore local ecosystems and create greener public spaces.

In addition to the Pune plantation drive, the company will support the planting of another 9,000 native trees across Pune and Gurugram in partnership with the Times Employ India Foundation. Together, these efforts are expected to contribute to ecological restoration while strengthening climate resilience in rapidly growing urban areas.

The latest phase builds on the success of the company’s earlier plantation programme at the Indian Army Land in Pune, where 5,000 native trees were planted under its CSR initiative. Those plantations continue to be maintained through regular monitoring and scientific care by the Vaghmi Foundation to ensure healthy growth and high survival rates.

Speaking on the initiative, Arvind Chandra, Chief Executive Officer of Tenneco Clean Air India Limited, said the company believes its commitment to clean air goes beyond the products it develops for the automotive sector. He noted that while the company works to reduce vehicle emissions through advanced technologies, it is equally focused on creating a healthier environment through initiatives that increase green cover and strengthen nature’s ability to absorb carbon dioxide. He added that the company remains committed to supporting communities through practical and long-term sustainability programmes.

Environmental conservation continues to be a key focus area of Tenneco Clean Air India’s CSR strategy. The Vrikshaaropan Abhiyan promotes the plantation of native tree species, restoration of urban ecosystems and active participation from local communities. The programme is supported through scientific plantation methods, structured maintenance and continuous monitoring to maximise the survival and growth of saplings.

With more than 200 acres identified for phased plantation activities, the initiative is expected to contribute significantly to the development of one of Pune’s major urban green landscapes. The launch event was attended by representatives from Tenneco Clean Air India Limited, the Indian Army, Vaghmi Foundation, environmental experts, community members, volunteers and media representatives, who joined the plantation drive to mark the beginning of the second phase.
