Synopsys, Inc (Nasdaq: SNPS), in collaboration with COEP Technological University and CADFEM India, has established the Ansys Digital Twin & Multiphysics Lab at the COEP campus. The facility was inaugurated during the 2026 Symposium following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the organisations. The initiative aims to strengthen engineering education, accelerate research and innovation, and deepen industry-academia collaboration by providing students, researchers and faculty with access to advanced engineering simulation technologies.

The new laboratory will provide access to Ansys digital twin and multiphysics simulation software for academic learning and non-commercial research. As engineering and product development become increasingly software-driven, simulation technologies are playing a growing role in designing, testing and validating complex systems. The collaboration is intended to give students practical exposure to engineering workflows and technologies that are increasingly used across industries.

Speaking about the collaboration, Gilles Eggenspieler, Director, Global Academic Program, Synopsys, said, “Engineering is becoming increasingly software-defined. Simulation and digital twin technologies are now central to how future products are designed and validated. Through this collaboration with COEP, Synopsys is investing in the next generation of engineers and providing them with access to industry-leading simulation technologies, hands-on learning opportunities and exposure to real-world engineering workflows. This strengthening of academia and industry collaboration is vital to prepare students for the evolving demands of global engineering and innovation.”

Under the partnership, students and faculty will have opportunities to participate in certification programmes, technical workshops, mentoring initiatives and faculty development programmes. The collaboration will also facilitate expert lectures, industry interactions, internships, coursework using Ansys simulation resources and collaborative research projects. Certification opportunities are planned for up to 100 students, alongside access to Ansys Innovation Space and physics-based simulation courses.

Prof.Sunil Bhirud, Vice Chancellor, COEP Technological University, said, “COEP Technological University is a strong believer in combining academic excellence and industry engagement. This collaboration with Synopsys will considerably strengthen our research and learning ecosystem. The industries of tomorrow require innovation, interdisciplinary research and practical engineering skills, and the new laboratory and associated academic initiatives will help nurture them.”

The collaboration brings together COEP Technological University’s long-standing academic and research legacy, Synopsys’ expertise in engineering simulation and CADFEM India’s technical enablement capabilities. Together, the organisations aim to create opportunities for experiential learning, interdisciplinary research, technical publications, outreach initiatives and stronger industry engagement.

The programme is expected to equip students with practical simulation and engineering skills relevant to sectors such as aerospace, automotive, electronics, manufacturing, biomedical engineering and industrial systems, while supporting the development of industry-ready engineering talent.

Established in 1854, COEP Technological University is one of Asia’s oldest engineering institutions. The university currently serves nearly 6,700 students across undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes and offers programmes spanning engineering, planning, management and research. COEP Tech holds an A+ NAAC accreditation and was ranked 90th in Engineering and 43rd among State Public Universities in NIRF 2025.
