RITES Ltd, a leading transport infrastructure consultancy, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of the Republic of Botswana, represented by its Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, to jointly work on upgrading and expanding the country’s transport ecosystem. The collaboration is aimed at supporting Botswana’s efforts to modernise its railway and transport infrastructure through the adoption of contemporary technologies, international best practices, and structured skill development to improve efficiency, safety, and operational reliability.

As part of the agreement, Botswana will leverage RITES’ extensive experience in railway development and modernisation. The scope of cooperation includes assistance in the supply of rolling stock, commissioning and maintenance support for rail systems, and the upgradation of railway workshops. Beyond railways, the partnership also covers a wide spectrum of transport infrastructure projects, including highways, bridges, airports, and associated buildings.

The MoU further outlines RITES’ role in strengthening local capabilities through technical training and capacity-building programmes, facilitating knowledge transfer, and delivering quality assurance services such as third-party inspections, pre-shipment checks, and final acceptance testing. Advanced digital solutions, including integrated train operations and passenger management systems, will also be deployed to enhance overall system performance.
