Mahindra Extends Battery-as-a-Service to Entire Electric SUV Range

Mahindra has expanded its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme to its complete Electric Origin SUV portfolio, covering the BE 6 SPORTEQ, XEV 9S and XEV 9e. The initiative is aimed at reducing the upfront cost of electric vehicle ownership and giving customers greater flexibility in financing their vehicles.

The BaaS programme was first introduced with the BE 6 SPORTEQ. Under the model, customers finance the vehicle and battery separately through a dual-financing structure. Mahindra said the programme has received a strong response from customers across India, encouraging the company to extend the offering across its electric SUV range. With the latest expansion, BaaS is available on all variants of the BE 6 SPORTEQ, as well as the XEV 9S and XEV 9e.

Under the programme, the BE 6 SPORTEQ starts at ₹11.45 lakh, with battery financing available at an effective usage cost of ₹3.75 per kilometre. The XEV 9S starts at ₹12.65 lakh, while the XEV 9e starts at ₹13.90 lakh, with battery financing also available at an effective usage cost of ₹3.75 per kilometre.

Mahindra said the BaaS model is designed to lower the initial purchase price by separating financing for the vehicle and battery. This allows customers to manage their monthly financial commitments differently while accessing Mahindra’s electric SUV portfolio.

The company said the response to the initial BaaS offering demonstrates demand for alternative ownership and financing models that can make electric vehicles more accessible. The expansion is expected to further support the adoption of electric SUVs by offering customers additional financing choices.

Mahindra’s Electric Origin SUV range forms an important part of its electric mobility strategy. The company has been expanding its portfolio of electric SUVs while developing technology, manufacturing capabilities and supporting infrastructure for electric mobility. The BaaS programme is offered through the respective financing partners and is subject to their approval and applicable terms and conditions. It is a dual-loan finance product and is not a pay-per-use programme.

The quoted BaaS prices are based on a battery EMI starting at ₹6,975 and an effective usage cost of ₹3.75 per kilometre, considering usage of 60 kilometres per day and a specified down payment. Actual battery EMI will vary depending on battery size, down payment and loan tenure. BaaS prices exclude charging, maintenance, repair costs, charger costs, road tax, insurance, TCS and other applicable statutory levies. The programme is available for personal use only.

Founded in 1945, the Mahindra Group operates across more than 100 countries and employs around 324,000 people. The Group has businesses spanning farm equipment, utility vehicles, information technology and financial services, along with renewable energy, agriculture, logistics, hospitality and real estate. Mahindra said the expansion of BaaS across its Electric Origin SUV portfolio is another step towards offering more flexible EV ownership options and supporting India’s transition to electric mobility.
