Kirloskar Oil Engines Limited (KOEL) and DEUTZ have entered into a strategic cooperation to expand the global reach of KOEL’s compact engine solutions. The partnership will focus on the 1.6-litre engine platform and target markets across Europe and North America.
The cooperation brings together KOEL’s engineering capabilities and manufacturing scale with DEUTZ’s international sales and service network. The companies aim to address growing demand for compact and reliable engines in the under-2-litre segment. The 1.6-litre engine platform is designed for off-highway applications and will complement existing drive solutions in the lower power category. The engine series will be available in naturally aspirated and turbocharged versions based on the R550 platform.
The water-cooled, three-cylinder engine features electronic direct injection and a high-pressure common-rail fuel system. It offers power outputs ranging from 18 kW to 41.2 kW. The engines are intended for a wide range of applications, including construction equipment, material handling machinery and industrial equipment. Their compact design and flexible installation options allow manufacturers to integrate them into different machine configurations. The platform meets EU Stage V emissions standards as well as US EPA and CARB Tier 4 requirements for off-highway applications.
Anmol Batra, President, Global Industrial Business, Kirloskar Oil Engines, said the two companies have a long history of working together in engines and drive solutions. He said the new agreement will strengthen their cooperation in compact drive systems and help meet demand for smaller engines. Mr Batra added that combining KOEL’s engineering and manufacturing capabilities with DEUTZ’s international network would allow the companies to respond to market trends such as engine downsizing and the growing requirement for compact power solutions.
Markus Villinger, CEO, Business Unit DEUTZ Engines, said the 1.6-litre engine adds a compact solution to the company’s lower-power portfolio. He said customers would also benefit from DEUTZ’s global service network, including spare-parts availability, technical assistance and lifecycle support. The partnership combines KOEL’s experience across power generation, industrial, agriculture and infrastructure applications with DEUTZ’s global distribution and service capabilities.
