JSW Steel, one of India’s leading integrated steel producers, has selected international technology group ANDRITZ to supply a new continuous galvanizing line at its steel plant in Toranagallu, Karnataka. The facility will manufacture high-quality galvanized steel, including Advanced High-Strength Steel (AHSS) grades designed for demanding automotive applications.

The new line will strengthen JSW Steel’s portfolio of value-added steel products and support the company’s efforts to address the changing requirements of the automotive industry. As vehicle manufacturers increasingly focus on fuel efficiency, safety and electrification, demand for high-strength, lightweight steel continues to grow. AHSS enables automakers to reduce vehicle weight while maintaining structural strength and safety.

The line will have an annual production capacity of approximately 500,000 tonnes and will process steel strip up to 1,900 mm wide and 2.60 mm thick. It will be capable of producing AHSS grades with tensile strengths of up to 1,480 MPa. Designed for process speeds of up to 180 metres per minute, the facility is scheduled to commence operations in 2028.

ANDRITZ will be responsible for engineering, manufacturing and supplying the complete galvanizing line. Its scope includes terminal equipment, a chemical cleaning section, furnace, coating pot and after-pot cooling system, along with a skin pass mill, tension leveling line and post-treatment section.

The equipment will be designed to meet stringent quality requirements for automotive steel production. The line is expected to provide high surface quality, accurate coating control and consistent metallurgical properties, enabling JSW Steel to produce galvanized steel suitable for advanced automotive applications.

The project also strengthens the long-standing relationship between JSW Steel and ANDRITZ. Commenting on the order, Burgel Guido, Senior Vice President, ANDRITZ Metals Processing, said, “We are very pleased that JSW Steel chose us for this strategic project. This project reflects our ability to deliver innovative, high-performance solutions that enable the production of advanced materials for the evolving automotive market. We look forward to contributing to JSW Steel’s continued growth and technological leadership.”

The order has been included in ANDRITZ’s order intake for the second quarter of 2026. The financial value of the contract has not been disclosed. The new galvanizing line is expected to enhance JSW Steel’s ability to serve automotive customers with advanced coated steel products while supporting the company’s continued expansion in higher-value steel segments.

A flagship company of the US$25 billion JSW Group, JSW Steel has emerged as one of the world’s leading integrated steel producers. The company continues to invest in advanced manufacturing technologies, sustainability initiatives and high-value steel products while maintaining its commitment to reducing carbon emissions and supporting India’s transition towards sustainable industrial growth.
