JSW Steel Limited has reported consolidated crude steel production of 6.59 million tonnes for the first quarter of financial year 2026-27. The company recorded a 3% year-on-year increase in crude steel output during the quarter, with production impacted by the planned shutdown of Blast Furnace 3 (BF3) at its Vijayanagar facility in Karnataka for capacity enhancement.
BF3 resumed hot metal production on June 23, 2026, following the completion of the upgradation activity. Excluding the production impact arising from the BF3 shutdown compared with the previous year’s base, JSW Steel’s Q1 FY27 production volumes increased by approximately 15% year-on-year, supported by the full ramp-up of operations at JSW Vijayanagar Metallics Limited (JVML) and improved capacity utilisation at the company’s Dolvi facility.
The company’s Indian operations achieved capacity utilisation of approximately 94% during Q1 FY27, excluding the capacity under shutdown at BF3. The performance reflects JSW Steel’s focus on operational efficiency, asset optimisation and strengthening production capabilities across its manufacturing network.
JSW Steel is the flagship business of the diversified US$25 billion JSW Group and has grown over the past three decades from a single manufacturing unit into one of India’s leading integrated steel producers. The company currently has a combined crude steel capacity of 37.9 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), including 4.5 MTPA through its joint venture with JFE Steel of Japan. The company plans to expand its combined capacity to 54.8 MTPA over the next four years.
The Vijayanagar steel plant in Karnataka, JSW Steel’s largest manufacturing facility, currently has a capacity of 19.5 MTPA and is being expanded to approximately 25 MTPA by FY30. The expansion is expected to position the facility among the world’s largest single-location steel manufacturing complexes.
JSW Steel continues to invest in research, innovation and advanced manufacturing technologies through its strategic collaboration with JFE Steel, enabling the development of high-value special steel products for sectors including automotive, infrastructure, construction, electrical applications and consumer appliances.
The company has also maintained a strong focus on sustainability and responsible manufacturing. JSW Steel has been recognised as a WorldSteel Steel Sustainability Champion for eight consecutive years from 2019 to 2026 and is included in leading sustainability indices such as FTSE4Good and Dow Jones Sustainability Indices. The company has set targets to reduce carbon emissions from steel-making operations, achieve carbon neutrality for directly controlled operations by 2050, improve resource efficiency and support biodiversity conservation.
Through continued investments in capacity expansion, technology and sustainable practices, JSW Steel remains focused on strengthening its position as a globally competitive steel producer while supporting India’s industrial growth and infrastructure development.
