Gestamp, a global automotive technology company specialising in the design and manufacture of engineered metal components, has inaugurated its fifth production facility in India at Bhagapura, Gujarat. The company has invested ₹523.7 crore across Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the project, strengthening its presence in one of India’s key automotive manufacturing regions.

The new facility marks an important step in Gestamp’s 20-year journey in India and reflects the company’s continued confidence in the country’s automotive market. The Bhagapura plant currently employs around 240 professionals and is focused on manufacturing advanced body-in-white (BiW) components for the automotive industry.

The plant has two hot-stamping lines, a laser cutting line and welding cells for assembly operations. It currently has a manufacturing area of 31,790 square metres, with scope for future expansion based on market demand and further project approvals.

The facility was officially inaugurated by Francisco J. Riberas, Executive Chairman of Gestamp; Antonio López, CEO Asia; Glyn Jones, Country Manager and President of Gestamp India; and Patricia Riberas, Chief Corporate Officer. Francisco J. Riberas said, “India is a key strategic market for Gestamp. Over the past two decades, we have established ourselves as a technology partner for domestic and international automobile manufacturers operating in the country. Our investment in Gujarat allows us to strengthen our manufacturing presence in one of India’s leading industrial hubs and support our future growth plans.” He added that India’s growing automotive market and increasing focus on vehicle safety and quality are creating new opportunities for advanced automotive technologies.

The Bhagapura plant has been designed to support efficient and flexible manufacturing. It is equipped to produce products from Gestamp’s Ges-Gigastamping® family of large and lightweight components. These products are designed to help vehicle manufacturers improve efficiency, reduce weight, enhance safety and simplify assembly processes.

The company has also introduced an energy monitoring system at the new facility to identify and reduce energy inefficiencies. The plant also plans to enter into agreements for the purchase of electricity from certified renewable energy sources. Gestamp entered India in 2006 and began developing its own manufacturing operations in the country from 2010. Today, the company operates five plants, including three facilities in Pune, one in Chennai and the new plant in Bhagapura.

Gestamp’s total manufacturing footprint in India now covers around 188,000 square metres. The company operates 14 stamping production lines, including five hot-stamping lines, with two more currently being installed. The company supports around 2,300 jobs in India and manufactures body-in-white components, chassis parts and automotive mechanisms. Gestamp’s revenue in India has grown by more than 80% over the last five full financial years, reaching €245 million by the end of 2025.
