Balu Forge Industries Ltd has acquired a state-of-the-art ring rolling production line capable of manufacturing forged rings with an outer diameter of up to 6.7 metres and weighing as much as 18,000 kg. The acquisition places the company among the largest ring rolling manufacturers in India and strengthens its ability to produce large, precision-engineered components for critical industries. The new production line is expected to begin production trials before the end of 2026.

The facility adds 18,000 tonnes of specialised heavy ring rolling capacity to Balu Forge’s operations. The company said the new capability will help reduce India’s dependence on imported ultra-large forged and precision-machined components. The expanded capacity will cater to sectors including defence, aerospace, wind energy, nuclear power, oil and gas, mining, heavy engineering, railways and marine applications.

Trimaan Chandock, Executive Director, Balu Forge Industries Ltd, said the acquisition marks an important step for both the company and the Indian manufacturing sector. He said the new equipment will allow the company to manufacture large and complex components in India and support the requirements of renewable energy, defence and heavy industries.

In the wind energy sector, the new facility will manufacture large tower flanges, yaw rings, pitch bearings and slewing rings for onshore and offshore wind turbines. For aerospace and defence applications, the production line will be used for structural rings, rocket motor casings, engine components, missile-related components, turbine engine rings, compressor drums, turbine shrouds and high-precision bearing rings.

The facility will also support space programmes through the production of structural rings, adapter flanges and rocket motor casing sections. In the nuclear and power generation sector, Balu Forge plans to manufacture retaining rings, generator components and pressure vessel rings. The oil and gas industry will be served through products such as subsea connectors, blowout preventer components, industrial valves and pipeline flanges.

The company will also target heavy machinery, mining and marine applications, including gear blanks, bearing races, excavator slewing rings and marine propulsion components. Heavy-haul railway equipment, cranes and tunnel-boring systems will form another application area.
