AnalogAI has selected memBrain™ Synaptic Analog Generative Engine (SAGE) neuromorphic hardware intellectual property (IP) from Silicon Storage Technology® (SST®), a subsidiary of Microchip Technology, for its first real-world edge AI processors. AnalogAI is developing edge AI processors featuring a proprietary, hardware-aware algorithm designed to simultaneously train and run inference on AI models in real-world environments. By integrating SST’s memBrain SAGE IP, the company aims to deliver analog compute-in-memory (aCIM) performance at or below one watt for ultra-low-power edge applications.
The technology is intended to support real-world inference applications in which devices must adapt to changing conditions. Potential applications include environment-adapting humanoid robots, drones and vehicles, where real-time response and low power consumption are important requirements.
AnalogAI is leveraging the silicon-proven SST memBrain SAGE IP, based on SST SuperFlash®, as the core inference engine for its first products. The IP is designed to combine computing performance and power efficiency while enabling AI processing closer to the point of data generation.
“AnalogAI is pursuing innovative co-optimized solutions for edge AI inference that enable edge devices to adapt real-time to sudden changes in the environment,” said Mark Reiten, senior vice president of Microchip’s Intelligent Compute business unit. “As the core inference engine for AnalogAI’s first products, SST memBrain SAGE IP delivers the necessary compute performance coupled with the power efficiency AnalogAI requires to meet their application targets. We are pleased to welcome AnalogAI as the newest licensee of our SST memBrain IP, joining our rapidly expanding ecosystem.”
The SST memBrain SAGE IP includes the memBrain Tensor In-Memory Logic Element (TILE), an ESF3 bitcell optimised to store up to eight bits per cell at nanoamp levels, along with custom array, decoder and driver circuitry. The IP also incorporates optimised digital-to-analog and analog-to-digital converters, summator and high-voltage bias circuitry, nanoamp-level bitcell control logic and proprietary test circuitry. SST provides supporting technology documentation and simulation models, together with full IP integration services and support.
“AnalogAI selected SST’s memBrain SAGE IP after an industry-wide search of available offerings and determined the silicon-proven memBrain SAGE IP best enabled us to accelerate our development time while still achieving the ultra-low-power and high performance required in our market segment,” said Jaejun Lee, AnalogAI’s chief executive officer. “Analog Compute-in-Memory is a rapidly emerging field, and at AnalogAI we are pioneering new functionality for edge AI devices requiring real-world adaptation.”
SST memBrain SAGE IP has been developed and deployed in 40 nm and 28 nm foundry processes using production-ready SuperFlash memory, with a technology roadmap that includes development at 22 nm. SuperFlash provides non-volatile on-chip storage designed for fast access, high endurance and data retention without requiring external memory components.
AnalogAI develops edge AI processors capable of training directly on devices, enabling robots, drones and vehicles to adapt to changing physical environments in real time while operating at ultra-low power. Its analog compute-in-memory architecture combines on-device training and inference within a single low-power design, extending edge AI beyond conventional inference-only approaches. The company focuses on physical-world edge applications where systems need to continuously adapt after deployment, including robotics and autonomous machines. AnalogAI is headquartered in the Seoul area, South Korea.
