Eicher Trucks and Buses, a division of VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV) Limited, marked Drivers’ Day by completing 10 years of the Eicher Driver Care Program, an initiative aimed at improving access to healthcare and vision care for commercial vehicle drivers across India. To mark the occasion, Eicher is providing healthcare and vision-care services to more than 1,000 drivers across the country. The programme focuses on preventive healthcare and eye care, recognising the role of drivers in supporting India’s transportation and logistics network.

The Eicher Driver Care Program was launched in 2016 in partnership with Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital (SCEH). Over the past decade, the initiative has conducted more than 17,000 eye camps and facilitated over 8 lakh eye screenings, while distributing nearly 1 lakh spectacles to drivers.

“Drivers are at the heart of India’s transportation ecosystem and play an indispensable role in keeping businesses, communities and the economy moving. As we celebrate Drivers’ Day, completing 10 years of the Eicher Driver Care Program is an important milestone for us. Our partnership with Dr Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital has enabled us to consistently take essential vision and healthcare services closer to drivers across the country. We remain committed to supporting their health and well-being and contributing towards safer roads and a stronger commercial transportation ecosystem,” said B Srinivas, MD & CEO, VECV.

The programme has expanded from its initial focus on eye care to a wider healthcare initiative operating across major transportation hubs. It currently has 13 Mobile Eye Vans and one static centre at Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar in Delhi. The mobile eye-care vans cover Delhi NCR, Kanpur, Jaipur, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Patna, Sambalpur, Guwahati, Pune, Salem, Nashik and Hyderabad. The network enables drivers to access vision screening and related services closer to their workplaces and transport routes.

Eicher has also expanded its support for drivers through Eicher Jagruk Bharat, a nationwide initiative designed to help drivers and their families understand and access eligible social security schemes. Through a WhatsApp chatbot, drivers can connect with the Jagruk Bharat team by giving a missed call or sending “Hi” to 9318350660. The service provides guidance on relevant social security schemes and extends assistance to drivers’ family members.
