Zen Technologies has secured two significant orders from India’s Ministry of Defence, totaling ₹289 crore (including GST), for the enhancement of its Anti-Drone Systems (ADS). Scheduled for completion within a year, these projects underscore the critical importance of prioritizing indigenously designed, developed, and manufactured (IDDM) defence solutions over imported alternatives.
The upcoming upgrades are shaped by operational feedback from missions such as Op Sindoor and other frontline deployments, where emerging drone threats highlighted the need for systems that can be swiftly updated at both hardware and software levels. Zen’s fully in-house developed ADS allowed for immediate validation of new MoD specifications and rapid implementation of system improvements—capabilities that foreign-sourced products are unable to match.
Recent global security incidents, including the Pager attack and Stuxnet malware, have further emphasized the necessity of complete domestic control over all elements of critical defence infrastructure, from hardware to embedded software. Foreign commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) systems present structural limitations for component-level upgrades and often require vendor approvals that can delay critical modifications.
Dependence on overseas suppliers also exposes India to export restrictions, unpredictable delivery timelines, and shifting geopolitical priorities. IDDM solutions, in contrast, empower Indian defence forces to implement modifications and upgrades at operational speed, bridging the gap between emerging threats and available capabilities.
As drone technology evolves, adversaries are increasingly deploying swarms, AI-enabled systems, and stealth capabilities. Continuous modernization is essential for national security. Platforms like Zen’s ADS provide India the flexibility to anticipate, adapt to, and counter future threats with speed and confidence.
Commenting on the orders, Ashok Atluri, Chairman and Managing Director of Zen Technologies, stated
“Operations like Op Sindoor have shown that the pace of our defence system upgrades directly impacts national security. Imported systems evolve according to foreign timelines and interests. Incidents like the pager malware attack demonstrate why full control over every system component is critical. Indian-designed, developed, and manufactured systems are not just a policy preference—they are vital for survival against evolving drone and cyber threats. Zen Technologies remains committed to keeping India ahead of emerging security challenges.”
