Varroc Engineering Ltd has announced the Vishwakarma Institute of Technology (VIT), Pune team as the winner of the third edition of its Eureka Challenge – Ignite Innovation. The team was recognised for developing an artificial intelligence-based solution aimed at improving the early stages of automotive design.

The winning project, titled “AI-Driven Design Intelligence for Early-Stage CAD Validation,” uses AI to identify potential design issues and optimisation opportunities during the initial stages of product development. The solution has the potential to help engineers improve design quality, shorten development cycles and speed up the product development process.

Eureka Challenge is Varroc’s engineering innovation programme designed to connect students with real-world challenges faced by the mobility industry. The 2026 edition attracted more than 25,000 registrations from undergraduate and postgraduate students across India.

Participants came from a wide range of disciplines, including computer science, electronics, electrical engineering, information technology, mechanical engineering, automobile engineering and related fields. More than 1,800 ideas were submitted during the competition. After several rounds of evaluation, 27 teams were selected for the online presentation stage. Four teams eventually advanced to the grand finale held at Varroc. The winning VIT Pune team also received an opportunity for a Pre-Placement Offer to join Varroc in 2027, providing a direct route from the competition to a potential career with the automotive technology company.

Arjun Jain, Director & CEO – Business I, Varroc, said the Eureka Challenge demonstrates the ability of young Indian engineers to address practical challenges in the mobility sector. He said the quality of research and the range of solutions presented this year reflected the growing importance of innovation in automotive engineering. “Eureka once again demonstrates the potential of India’s young engineers to solve for real-world challenges facing mobility,” Mr Jain said. He added that Varroc remains committed to connecting young talent with industry problems and encouraging engineers to develop practical solutions for safer, smarter and more sustainable mobility.

Now in its third year, the Eureka Challenge has become an industry-academia platform focused on engineering innovation. Varroc said the initiative also helps students gain exposure to real engineering processes and industry standards. Varroc has more than 800 R&D engineers and seven R&D centres worldwide. The company develops and manufactures solutions covering e-mobility, vehicle lighting, body systems, human-machine interfaces, powertrain and advanced electronics. The group reported income of ₹89,080 million from continued operations in FY26 and employs more than 5,400 people. It operates 37 manufacturing facilities globally and has filed more than 130 patents.
