Venture Global and Atlantic-SEE LNG Trade have announced a major expansion of their long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply agreement, reinforcing energy security initiatives across Central and Eastern Europe while strengthening transatlantic energy cooperation. Under the revised arrangement, Atlantic-SEE LNG Trade will increase its contracted LNG purchases from Venture Global from 0.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 1.0 MTPA. The agreement spans a 20-year period beginning in 2030 and reflects growing demand for reliable and diversified energy supplies throughout the region.
The expanded partnership builds on a broader strategy to enhance regional energy resilience through the development of critical LNG infrastructure. It follows Venture Global’s investment in regasification capacity at the Alexandroupolis LNG terminal in Greece, a facility that has emerged as a strategic gateway for importing natural gas into Southeastern and Central Europe.
The Alexandroupolis floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), together with the South-North Vertical Energy Corridor, is expected to play a pivotal role in diversifying gas supplies, reducing dependency on traditional sources, and improving access to competitively priced energy for countries across the region. Executives from both organizations emphasized the strategic importance of the agreement in supporting long-term energy stability and economic growth.
The increased LNG volumes will provide additional supply flexibility while supporting regional efforts to strengthen energy infrastructure and improve supply-chain resilience. The agreement also reflects the growing role of Greece as an energy hub connecting international suppliers with markets across Southeastern and Eastern Europe.
Atlantic-SEE LNG Trade, a joint venture established by AKTOR Group and DEPA Commercial, was created to facilitate LNG imports into Greece and distribute supplies throughout neighboring markets. The company aims to leverage the expanding Vertical Corridor network to improve regional energy access while supporting broader European energy diversification objectives.
For Venture Global, the agreement further expands its international customer base and underscores the company’s position as one of the largest LNG exporters in the United States. With more than 100 MTPA of LNG production capacity either operational, under construction, or in development, the company continues to invest across the LNG value chain, including production, transportation, shipping, regasification, and carbon management initiatives.
