The Vedanta Group has unveiled plans to invest an additional ₹1 lakh crore in Odisha, reinforcing its long-term commitment to the state’s industrial and economic development. The fresh investment is expected to generate over one lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities, officials confirmed on Thursday.

The new phase of expansion includes the establishment of a refinery, an aluminium park in Dhenkanal, and a ₹2,000-crore ferro-alloys plant in Keonjhar. In addition, Vedanta plans to set up two new aluminium parks—one at Jharsuguda, which is nearing completion, and another at a site to be finalized in consultation with the Odisha government. The proposal was formally presented by Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal during a meeting with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi in Bhubaneswar. The company has already invested nearly ₹1 lakh crore in Odisha to date.

The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) stated on X (formerly Twitter) “In a major step toward accelerating Odisha’s industrial growth, Vedanta Group will invest around ₹1 lakh crore in the state, creating over one lakh employment opportunities. The state government will extend full support through land allocation and infrastructure facilitation.”

The upcoming ferro-alloys facility in Keonjhar is expected to strengthen Odisha’s position in the global metals and minerals sector. Meanwhile, the Jharsuguda aluminium park will serve as a hub for downstream industries focused on high-grade aluminium alloy production catering to aerospace, electric mobility, and defence applications.

A senior government official noted, “These projects will attract significant downstream investments, foster MSME growth, and boost Odisha’s standing as a preferred destination for advanced manufacturing.” Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi described the development as a turning point for the state’s economic ambitions. “This investment marks a transformative moment for Odisha’s industrial future. It will accelerate growth, create large-scale employment, and pave the way for Odisha to emerge as a USD 500-billion economy by 2036,” he said.

Expressing his appreciation, Anil Agarwal lauded the state government’s proactive industrial policies. “We applaud the Chief Minister and his team for fostering an investor-friendly climate under the double-engine growth model. Vedanta is proud to be a long-standing partner in Odisha’s progress and remains deeply committed to its holistic development,” he said.

Mr Agarwal also encouraged local youth, entrepreneurs, and startups to explore opportunities within Vedanta’s upcoming industrial parks. “We invite innovators and entrepreneurs from Odisha to develop next-generation aluminium applications. Vedanta will extend access to land, utilities, and raw materials on a not-for-profit basis to support new ventures,” he added.
