TRUMPF, a global provider of machine tools, laser technology and semiconductor manufacturing solutions, has signed an agreement to acquire Mate Precision Technologies, a leading manufacturer of metal cutting and forming products. The acquisition will strengthen TRUMPF’s tooling business, broaden its product portfolio and expand its presence across North America while creating new growth opportunities for both companies.
Following the completion of the transaction, Mate Precision Technologies will continue to operate under its existing brand. The company’s management team, employees and international operations will remain in place, ensuring continuity for customers, suppliers and business partners.
The acquisition marks an important step in TRUMPF’s strategy to offer a wider range of tooling solutions for the sheet metal fabrication industry. Until now, the company primarily supplied bending and punching tools designed for its own machine platforms. With the addition of Mate’s product range, TRUMPF will now be able to serve customers using equipment from nearly every major machine manufacturer worldwide.
The expanded portfolio will provide manufacturers with access to a broader selection of punching and bending tools, helping improve productivity, flexibility and manufacturing efficiency across different production environments. The agreement also strengthens TRUMPF’s position in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Mate’s manufacturing operations in Minnesota complement TRUMPF’s long-established production facility in Farmington, Connecticut, where the company has been manufacturing equipment for more than five decades. The combined manufacturing footprint is expected to improve regional production capabilities, shorten delivery times and strengthen supply chain resilience across North America.
Lutz Labisch, President and Chief Executive Officer of TRUMPF Inc., said Mate’s expertise, customer relationships and broad tooling portfolio make it an excellent fit for TRUMPF. He noted that the partnership will allow the company to offer more comprehensive solutions to sheet metal manufacturers while strengthening support for customers using a wide variety of machine brands. The acquisition also aligns with TRUMPF’s strategy of manufacturing products closer to customers, enabling faster delivery and improved service while supporting regional manufacturing.
Till Küppers, Global Managing Director responsible for TRUMPF’s machine tooling production and global supply chain, said the partnership brings together two family-owned companies with a shared commitment to quality, innovation and customer service. He added that Mate customers will continue to receive the same products, services and support while benefiting from TRUMPF’s global manufacturing and sales network.
Dean Sundquist, former Chairman of Mate Precision Technologies, said joining TRUMPF preserves the company’s long-standing values while opening new opportunities for global growth. He noted that the agreement allows Mate to expand its reach without changing the trusted brand, experienced workforce or customer-focused approach that has defined the business for more than 60 years.
Joe Schneider, who has spent 32 years with Mate Precision Technologies, will continue to lead the company as President and Chief Executive Officer. He said the partnership marks the beginning of a new phase for the company and will enable faster growth, stronger innovation and wider customer support while maintaining the culture and values that employees and customers have come to expect.
Customers will continue to receive the same products, contracts, technical support and points of contact after the acquisition. Mate’s tooling solutions will remain compatible with a broad range of machine brands, while the combined strengths of both companies will deliver an expanded portfolio of products and services to sheet metal manufacturers worldwide.
