Team One Architects (TOA), a design-led architecture and workplace solutions firm, has completed the design and delivery of Columbia Group’s first Global Capability Centre (GCC) in India. Located at Mindspace Business Park in Navi Mumbai, the 20,000-square-foot facility can accommodate 220 employees and will serve as an operational and digital hub for the global maritime group.

The facility was developed as part of Columbia Group’s expansion into India and is designed to support its worldwide operations. Navi Mumbai was selected for its Grade-A commercial infrastructure, connectivity and established business environment, as well as access to India’s growing pool of maritime and technology talent.

Team One Architects provided end-to-end services for the project, covering workplace strategy, architectural design, development and turnkey execution. The brief focused on creating a flexible workplace that supports operational efficiency, collaboration and future expansion.

Aditya Yamsanwar, Director, Team One Architects, said global capability centres are increasingly becoming strategic assets rather than conventional office spaces. He said the design for Columbia Ship Management’s India GCC focused on flexibility, employee needs and the requirements of a globally connected maritime organisation.

The workplace features acoustically designed focus areas, technology-enabled meeting rooms and global video-conferencing facilities. Its modular planning allows Columbia Group to expand the facility in phases as its India operations grow. The design is based on the concept of “Resilient Collaboration”, with elements reflecting the maritime character of the organisation. Biophilic features, flowing spatial transitions inspired by waves, and a palette of soft neutrals and muted blues create a contemporary workplace environment.

The facility also incorporates technology across its operations. Sensor-based lighting, digital room-booking systems, secure access controls and high-capacity IT infrastructure have been integrated into the workspace. These systems are designed to support hybrid working and continuous coordination between teams operating across different time zones.

Demetris Chrysostomou, Deputy CEO, Columbia Group, said the workplace was developed around the importance of people, productivity and wellbeing. He added that the facility combines technology and operational readiness with amenities intended to create an engaging environment for employees.

The new GCC is expected to play an important role in Columbia Group’s India operations while supporting its global activities. Its design provides dedicated spaces for focused work, collaboration and meetings, allowing teams to work efficiently while remaining connected with colleagues worldwide.

For Team One Architects, the project strengthens its experience in designing and executing GCCs and complex commercial workplaces. The Columbia Group facility also adds to the firm’s growing portfolio in the maritime and global capability centre sectors. The project highlights the changing role of GCCs in India, with companies increasingly using these centres as platforms for technology, operations, talent and long-term business growth.
