Tata Chemicals Deploys 120 Local Volunteers to Strengthen Government Schools in Okhamandal

Tata Chemicals Society for Rural Development (TCSRD), the CSR arm of Tata Chemicals Limited, in partnership with the Coastal Salinity Prevention Cell (CSPC), has launched a School Support Programme in Okhamandal to strengthen teaching support and improve learning outcomes in government schools. The initiative has engaged 120 trained local education volunteers who will work across primary and secondary schools to address teacher shortages, provide remedial education and support students who require additional academic assistance. The programme is designed to improve classroom continuity and strengthen foundational learning for children across the block.

The volunteer network includes 40 Primary School Volunteers who will support government primary schools facing teacher shortages, along with 44 Remedial Education Volunteers focused on improving foundational literacy and numeracy. Sixteen High School Educators will provide Mathematics and Science support to students in Classes 9 and 10.

The programme also includes 13 Re-enrolment and NIOS Instructors who will help out-of-school children and young people return to education through the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). Seven Academic Enhancement Educators will work to improve the overall learning environment across villages.

The programme was formally launched on August 4, 2026, at Sabras Bhavan in Mithapur. The event was attended by Pabubha Virambha Manek, Member of the Legislative Assembly, Devbhumi Dwarka; Madhuben Bhatt, District Primary Education Officer; RV Odedra, Taluka Development Officer, Devbhumi Dwarka; Bharatbhai Karmata, Vice President, Dwarka Taluka Panchayat; Bhurabha Jadiya, Block Resource Centre Coordinator; Aashaben Parmar, Taluka Education Coordinator; and Rino Raj, Vice President Manufacturing, India, Tata Chemicals Limited.

The School Support Programme is part of TCSRD’s continued efforts to improve access to quality education through community-based initiatives. By bringing together trained local volunteers, government institutions and schools, the programme aims to create a stronger support system for students and teachers in Okhamandal.
