Suzlon Group, India’s leading wind energy solutions provider, has secured a 248.85 MW wind power order from the ArcelorMittal Group through its renewable energy arm in India. The project will be executed in Bhachau, Gujarat, and will contribute to a larger 550 MW hybrid renewable development in the state.
The wind capacity awarded to Suzlon will be used for captive consumption to support the energy needs of ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel’s manufacturing facilities in India. Under the order, Suzlon will supply 79 S144 wind turbine generators (WTGs), each with a rated capacity of 3.15 MW.
This is Suzlon’s first order from the ArcelorMittal Group and also its fourth significant wind contract within a year linked to cleaner steel production. With this project, Suzlon’s cumulative contribution to renewable capacity supporting green steel initiatives in India reaches approximately 1,156 MW. Over the last 12 months, the company has partnered with multiple leading steel producers to advance the shift toward lower-emission manufacturing by integrating renewable power into industrial operations. Suzlon continues to strengthen its leadership position in Gujarat, where it has an installed wind energy base of 4.5 GW that continues to expand.
Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman, Suzlon Group, said the partnership reflects the increasing role of renewables in decarbonising heavy industry. He noted that steel remains essential for India’s infrastructure development while also being among the most power-intensive sectors. As producers accelerate efforts to lower emissions, renewable energy is emerging not only as a sustainability solution but also as a competitive input. He added that Suzlon remains focused on enabling this transition through long-term collaborations and sector-wide initiatives such as the Indian Steel Green Council.
JP Chalasani, Chief Executive Officer, Suzlon Group, welcomed ArcelorMittal as a key partner in India’s transition towards a low-carbon economy. He said the project aligns with Suzlon’s growing focus on the EPC segment, with the company aiming to increase EPC’s contribution to around 50% of its overall order book over time. He added that EPC is expected to play an increasing role in future order inflows.
Amit Harlalka, Director, ArcelorMittal Sustainable Solutions India, said securing clean energy supply requires dependable partners with proven track records. He said Suzlon’s long experience and established reliability in wind power made it a preferred choice, and the partnership reflects a shared commitment to accelerate green steel manufacturing and support sustainable industrial development in India.
