Suzlon Group has secured the first commercial order for its recently launched S175 5.0 MW wind turbine, receiving a 105 MW project from Sunsure Energy. The order comes within two weeks of the turbine’s introduction, marking the commercial debut of Suzlon’s next-generation platform and reinforcing customer confidence in the company’s latest wind energy technology.
The project will be developed in Bijapur, Karnataka, and further strengthens the partnership between Suzlon and Sunsure Energy. This is the third order placed by Sunsure with Suzlon in less than 14 months, taking the companies’ cumulative order book to 400.8 MW.
The S175 turbine, positioned as India’s tallest and most powerful wind turbine, features a 175-metre rotor and a 160-metre hybrid lattice tower. The platform is designed to capture stronger and more consistent wind resources, enabling higher energy generation and improved project economics. Its advanced design also expands the range of commercially viable wind project locations by making lower wind-speed sites suitable for large-scale renewable energy development.
Commenting on the partnership, Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman, Suzlon Group, said, “Sunsure Energy began its wind energy journey with Suzlon and has grown into one of India’s leading renewable energy providers focused on the commercial and industrial segment. Our collaboration has progressed across multiple technologies and geographies, from our 2.1 MW platform to the 3 MW series, and now to the launch of our 5 MW S175 turbine. We appreciate their continued confidence in our technology, execution capabilities and long-term partnership.”
Sunsure Energy said the latest investment aligns with its strategy of expanding clean energy capacity to meet the growing demand from industries, data centres, global capability centres, advanced manufacturing facilities and electric mobility infrastructure.
Manish Mehta, Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer, Sunsure Energy, said, “The S175 platform has been selected for its ability to support firm and reliable renewable energy generation, making it well suited for hybrid and round-the-clock renewable power solutions. This project supports our long-term objective of building a 10 GW renewable energy platform by 2030, and Suzlon’s proven execution experience provides us with the confidence to continue expanding this partnership.”
Ajay Kapur, Chief Executive Officer, Suzlon Group, said the rapid expansion of the partnership reflects the growing momentum of India’s commercial and industrial renewable energy market. “Achieving a cumulative 400.8 MW of projects with Sunsure Energy in just over a year demonstrates the increasing demand for high-performance wind energy solutions and highlights the trust customers place in Suzlon’s technology, innovation and project execution capabilities,” he said.
Headquartered in Pune, India, Suzlon Energy Limited is a leading global renewable energy solutions provider with approximately 21.5 GW of wind energy installations across 17 countries. With integrated manufacturing capabilities and international R&D centers, the company continues to expand its global footprint while delivering advanced wind energy technologies for a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
