Soprema India Private Limited today announced the inauguration of its new geocomposites manufacturing facility and headquarters in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. This greenfield plant establishes a dedicated hub for the company’s geocomposite products and reinforces its commitment to supporting India’s “Make in India” initiative.
The state-of-the-art facility spans over 11,000 square metres, with the first phase covering 1,750 square metres, and is engineered for an annual production capacity of six million square metres of material. The plant features a fully automated production line for Geosynthetic Cementitious Composite Mats (GCCM) and Geosynthetic Clay Liners (GCL), combining advanced needle-punching technology with heavy-duty material handling systems. The line is designed to meet international standards, including CE certification, and produces rolls up to 5.9 metres wide, reducing seams during installation in large civil engineering projects.
“The new automated production line for GCCM and GCL opens new avenues for growth and complements our PVC Primatess geomembranes,” said Arkadiusz Gruszyński, Commercial Director at SEBAN by SOPREMA. “This facility enhances our ability to provide high-performance geosynthetic solutions for infrastructure projects while supporting sustainability and local manufacturing in India.”
The Ahmedabad plant will manufacture a wide range of geocomposite products, including GCCM for ditch lining, slope protection, and remediation applications, and GCL incorporating bentonite clay for hydraulic barriers in landfills, ponds, and canals. These products complement the company’s existing PVC Primatess geomembranes, widely used for waterproofing tunnels, basements, and hydraulic structures.
Strategically located in Gujarat, the facility benefits from proximity to Mundra and Nhava Sheva ports, enabling efficient exports to Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Local production is expected to reduce lead times and logistics costs for Indian infrastructure projects while offering tailored solutions for diverse soil and climatic conditions.
This facility forms a key part of Soprema Group’s broader Asia-Pacific growth strategy. The global group operates more than 100 factories and over 20 research and development centres worldwide and recently reported a consolidated turnover of approximately EUR 4.82 billion.
Soprema India Private Limited, the Indian arm of the Soprema Group, specializes in waterproofing, insulation, and geosynthetic solutions for building and civil engineering applications, strengthening its position as a trusted partner for sustainable infrastructure development. The new Ahmedabad plant underscores the company’s commitment to innovation, quality, and localized manufacturing while supporting India’s rapidly growing civil and infrastructure sector.
