Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) hosted the fifth edition of the Global Electrification Mobility Summit (GEMS) in New Delhi, bringing together policymakers, industry executives and subject experts to accelerate India’s transition toward electric mobility. The summit focused on scaling electrification to drive economic growth, environmental sustainability and global competitiveness. Discussions centered on strengthening policy frameworks, expanding charging infrastructure, enhancing domestic manufacturing and fostering innovation across the mobility ecosystem.

The event was attended by HD Kumaraswamy, Union Minister of Heavy Industries; Dr Hanif Qureshi, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries; Ghanshyam Prasad, Chairperson of the Central Electricity Authority; and Padma Jaiswal, Secretary to the Government of NCT Delhi, alongside senior representatives from automotive and energy sectors.

Sessions explored the role of coordinated policy and institutional support in building a cohesive EV ecosystem. Industry leaders highlighted the importance of localization, financing access and infrastructure readiness as India moves from early adoption to broader mainstream electrification.

Government representatives emphasized the rapid pace of EV growth, expansion of charging networks and the strengthening of domestic supply chains. The need for grid readiness and closer coordination with power distribution companies was also discussed, particularly as heavy-duty and last-mile charging requirements increase.

A ministerial session marked the release of a SIAM whitepaper outlining strategies to accelerate adoption of electric buses in India. The document addresses regulatory, financing and infrastructure enablers required to scale public transport electrification.

A CXO panel examined the role of software, connectivity and data intelligence in shaping next-generation mobility, while a thematic discussion focused on charging infrastructure, business models and technology pathways. Industry experts presented insights on scalable charging frameworks, grid integration and sustainability standards.

The Innovators Conclave featured discussions on ultra-fast charging systems, battery-motor integration and the application of artificial intelligence in EV skilling initiatives. Participants underscored the importance of innovation-led collaboration to meet India’s long-term electrification objectives.
