Rajesh Aggarwal, IAS, Secretary of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), visited the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) and recognized its groundbreaking contributions to empowering Divyangjans. AMTZ’s work in developing assistive technologies, providing cutting-edge prosthetics, and supporting para-athletes on their journey to the Paralympics was particularly lauded. His visit underscored AMTZ’s pivotal role as a national hub promoting inclusion, accessibility, and self-sufficiency in healthcare.
During the visit, Shri Aggarwal toured AMTZ’s state-of-the-art facilities and engaged with startups focused on creating next-generation assistive technologies. He also had discussions with the World Health Innovation Fellows about disability empowerment and accessible healthcare, stressing the need for collaborative efforts across sectors.
“AMTZ stands out as a leading center for medical technology, and its work in assistive devices and disability empowerment is truly praiseworthy. The Department is eager to build deeper partnerships with AMTZ to support Divyangjans nationwide,” said Shri Aggarwal.
The visit also marked the inauguration of the SAGE Wheelchair manufacturing unit at AMTZ. SAGE India, a 44-year-old pioneer in the field, will now produce advanced wheelchairs and assistive devices at the MedTech Zone, further bolstering India’s capacity for domestic manufacturing of disability aids.
Dr Jitendra Sharma, MD & Founder CEO of AMTZ, shared, “At AMTZ, our commitment to empowering Divyangjans goes beyond just technology—it’s about dignity, opportunity, and inclusion. Through our Assistive Technology Centre, artificial limb programs, support for para-athletes, and skill development initiatives, we are fostering an ecosystem where innovation drives social impact. Our collaboration with DEPwD will amplify our shared mission to enable independence, employment, and entrepreneurship for persons with disabilities.”
With this visit, AMTZ and the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities are set to launch new initiatives aimed at furthering Divyangjan empowerment—strengthening their commitment to merging innovation with social responsibility and reinforcing India’s vision of inclusive healthcare and technology.
