S23: Advanced Cylindrical Grinding in a Compact Footprint

manufacturing-news

The new S23 universal cylindrical grinding machine combines precision engineering, high flexibility, and modern grinding capabilities in a space-efficient design. Engineered for both entry-level and advanced users, it offers a strong performance-to-cost ratio.

Officially introduced at EMO Hanover in September 2025, the S23 extends Fritz Studer AG’s range of grinding solutions. “With its precision, adaptability, and feature set, the S23 strengthens our offering across both standard and premium market segments,” says Sandro Bottazzo, CEO of Fritz Studer AG.

Despite its compact size, the S23 delivers consistent performance. It integrates STUDER’s C.O.R.E. system for hardware and software, a motorized B-axis with 1° Hirth coupling supporting up to three grinding wheels, as well as either frequency-controlled spindles or belt-driven systems. The base, made from Granitan®, provides excellent thermal stability and vibration damping.

The machine layout allows for flexible use of grinding tools in a single setup, which is particularly beneficial for components with complex geometries. Key features such as contact detection, semi-automatic wheel balancing, and optional in-process measurement systems contribute to repeatable, high-quality results.

Designed to meet diverse production needs, the S23 is suitable for small to medium-sized workpieces with straightforward or intricate shapes. It supports both single-piece and series production and is particularly relevant for sectors like tool and die manufacturing, automotive supply, aerospace, and medical device production.

“The S23 offers strong flexibility, whether you’re in prototyping or high-volume production,” says Rolf Grossenbacher, STUDER Sales Manager. Options such as a C-axis for non-round and thread grinding, swiveling tables, and customer-specific configurations ensure adaptability to varied tasks.

Operation is user-friendly, even for new operators. The C.O.R.E. touchscreen interface and StuderWIN software simplify setup, programming, and execution. The QuickSet feature reduces setup and changeover times significantly. For customers aiming to automate, standardized loader connections for easyLoad and insertLoad simplify integration.

STUDER backs the S23 with global support and over 111 years of experience in precision grinding technology. The result is a high-accuracy universal grinding machine that delivers consistent output and value over time.
