Tejas Networks [BSE: 540595, NSE: TEJASNET] has been awarded a major contract by PowerGrid Teleservices (PowerTel), a subsidiary of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), to deploy a next-generation SDN-enabled DWDM network across India. This large-scale modernization initiative aims to expand PowerTel’s backbone capacity and strengthen its high-speed optical connectivity across the country.
The end-to-end project includes the design, delivery, installation, testing, and commissioning of a 400Gbps DWDM system at both new greenfield sites and existing network routes. Tejas Networks will deploy its flagship TJ1600 DWDM/OTN platform, a versatile multi-terabit optical transport system capable of achieving data rates of up to 1.2Tbps per wavelength, while also supporting advanced alien wavelength technology for seamless interoperability.
This partnership highlights PowerTel’s commitment to building a future-ready, scalable network capable of supporting the surging data demands from telecommunication operators, cloud service providers, government networks, and enterprise clients across India.
Arnob Roy, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director of Tejas Networks, commented, “We are proud to deepen our relationship with PowerTel through this important network expansion program. This deployment will significantly enhance the capacity and performance of PowerTel’span-India optical backbone to meet the growing requirements of high-bandwidth applications. Our alien wavelength innovation provides an efficient and economical way for operators to boost network capacity without overhauling existing infrastructure.”
He added that Tejas Networks’ extensive expertise and years of research in alien wavelength solutions make it one of the very few global vendors to have successfully implemented this technology at scale on diverse third-party optical systems. This capability offers operators increased flexibility, faster rollout of new services, and improved supply chain resilience.
The upgraded DWDM infrastructure will also pave the way for faster, more reliable data transmission, improved latency performance, and expanded connectivity options for emerging digital services across industries. It reinforces India’s push toward advanced telecommunications infrastructure capable of supporting the nation’s digital transformation.
By combining software-defined networking (SDN) intelligence with high-capacity optical transport, the new system enables real-time network orchestration, efficient traffic management, and simplified operations—key factors in optimizing performance for data-intensive environments such as data centers and enterprise backbones.
Through this strategic collaboration, Tejas Networks continues to strengthen its role as a key technology partner to India’s leading network operators and infrastructure providers, delivering cutting-edge optical and packet transport solutions designed for scalability, flexibility, and long-term evolution.
Tejas Networks Limited designs and manufactures advanced wireline and wireless communication products used by telecom carriers, internet service providers, utilities, defense organizations, and government networks in more than 75 countries. The company is part of the Tata Group, with Panatone Finvest Limited, a subsidiary of Tata Sons Private Limited, serving as the majority shareholder.
