Larsen & Toubro’ s (L&T ) Renewables business has secured a major order from a leading client in the Middle East to develop three Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects, strengthening the company’s position in the region’s rapidly growing energy storage market. The projects will have a combined storage capacity of 6 GWh. The scope includes development of the BESS facilities along with associated grid interconnection infrastructure, including pooling substations and underground cable systems.

Each project will feature a four-hour BESS configuration, allowing electricity to be stored during periods of lower demand and supplied when demand rises. The systems are expected to support grid stability and enable greater integration of renewable energy into the power network.

Energy storage is becoming increasingly important as countries expand their renewable energy capacity. Solar and wind generation can vary depending on weather and time of day. Battery systems help address this challenge by storing excess electricity and making it available when required.

The L&T projects will use advanced liquid-cooling technology for the battery systems. The technology is designed to support higher power density while improving safety and helping extend the operating life of the equipment. The three projects are expected to contribute significantly to the modernisation of the region’s power infrastructure. They will also help improve the flexibility of electricity networks as renewable energy generation increases.

The order requires high standards in engineering, construction, safety, quality and project execution. L&T will draw on its experience in large-scale energy and infrastructure projects to deliver the facilities within the required performance and schedule parameters.

The latest order marks an important step in L&T’s expansion in the global energy storage sector. Battery energy storage is emerging as a critical component of modern power systems, supporting renewable energy integration, peak demand management and grid reliability.

The company’s capabilities across engineering, procurement and construction, grid infrastructure and renewable energy provide an integrated platform for executing large-scale storage projects. With a combined capacity of 6 GWh, the three Middle East projects represent a significant deployment of battery storage and underline the growing role of BESS technology in supporting the region’s transition towards cleaner and more flexible power systems.

The award also reflects continued customer confidence in L&T’s engineering and project management capabilities. The company is expanding its renewable energy portfolio across technologies and geographies as demand rises for reliable solutions that can support the integration of clean energy into electricity networks. L&T’s Renewables business is focused on developing solutions across renewable power generation, energy storage and associated infrastructure, supporting the transition towards a more sustainable energy system.
