L&T Energy CarbonLite Solutions has received a Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP) from NTPC Limited for the main plant package of the 2×800 MW Lara Stage-III Thermal Power Project in Chhattisgarh. The project marks another major milestone for the company in India’s power sector and reinforces its long-standing partnership with the country’s largest power utility.
The Limited Notice to Proceed has been issued ahead of the formal commencement of the project, with the full Notice to Proceed to be granted upon receipt of the required environmental clearance and completion of the LNTP period.
The project involves the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of two ultra-supercritical thermal generating units of 800 MW each, adding a total capacity of 1,600 MW to India’s power generation network. The facility is expected to play an important role in strengthening the country’s energy infrastructure by providing reliable baseload power to meet rising electricity demand driven by industrial growth, urbanisation and infrastructure expansion.
Under the contract, L&T Energy CarbonLite Solutions will undertake the design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of key plant equipment, including boilers, steam turbines, generators, electrostatic precipitators (ESPs), air-cooled condensers (ACC) and associated auxiliary systems. The company’s scope also covers mechanical, electrical, civil, control and instrumentation works required for the successful execution of the project.
The power plant will be built using ultra-supercritical technology, which offers significantly higher thermal efficiency than conventional coal-based power plants. The advanced technology also helps reduce specific fuel consumption and lower emissions, supporting India’s objective of improving efficiency in thermal power generation while meeting growing energy requirements.
Commenting on the order, T Madhava Das, Whole-time Director, Senior Executive Vice President and Head – Energy Hydrocarbon Division, Larsen & Toubro, said the project is the third ultra-supercritical thermal power contract awarded by NTPC to L&T over the past two years, reflecting the confidence that the utility continues to place in the company’s engineering, manufacturing and project execution capabilities. He added that L&T has built extensive expertise in executing large and complex energy infrastructure projects across the country and remains committed to delivering the Lara Stage-III project with the highest standards of quality, safety and operational excellence.
The latest order further strengthens L&T’s position in India’s power sector at a time when demand for reliable electricity continues to grow across industrial, commercial and residential segments. The project is also expected to contribute to the country’s long-term energy security by expanding high-efficiency thermal generation capacity.
