Jindal Stainless’ Hisar unit has been recognised with the Times Internet Ecopreneur Award 2026 for Lifetime Achievement in Sustainability, honouring its sustained efforts in decarbonisation, resource efficiency, circular economy practices and responsible manufacturing. The award was presented recently at Hyatt Regency, New Delhi, acknowledging the facility’s continued commitment to advancing sustainable and environmentally responsible stainless steel production.
The recognition highlights the Hisar unit’s initiatives to build a low-carbon, resource-efficient and future-ready manufacturing ecosystem. Over the years, the facility has implemented a range of measures focused on reducing its environmental footprint, including renewable energy adoption, green hydrogen integration, waste heat recovery, energy efficiency improvements, circular economy initiatives and responsible resource management.
The facility continued to strengthen its sustainability performance during Q1 FY27. The share of renewable electricity in its overall power mix increased to 67%, compared with 58% during the corresponding period last year. The unit also recorded a 12% reduction in greenhouse gas emission intensity while commissioning key energy-efficiency projects, including an energy-efficient centrifugal compressor and waste heat recovery systems.
Further reinforcing its commitment to responsible waste management, the Hisar facility achieved Zero Waste to Landfill certification with a Platinum+ rating for FY 2024–25. The achievement reflects the unit’s focus on maximising resource recovery and strengthening circular economy practices across its operations.
Commenting on the recognition, Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director, Jindal Stainless, said, “This award is a proud milestone in our sustainability journey and reflects the collective efforts of our employees, partners, and stakeholders. At Jindal Stainless, we believe that industrial growth and environmental responsibility must go hand in hand. Vijay Kumar Bindlish, Unit Head – Hisar, Jindal Stainless, said the recognition reflects the commitment of the entire Hisar team. The facility is advancing its decarbonisation roadmap through green hydrogen in annealing operations, increased renewable power procurement, rooftop solar generation and energy conservation projects. The company has also registered with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), marking an important step towards developing science-based emissions reduction targets aligned with global climate objectives. The award further strengthens Jindal Stainless’ commitment to integrating sustainability across its operations and supporting India’s transition towards greener manufacturing.
