Larsen & Toubro’s (L&T) Minerals & Metals business has won major domestic orders from Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and other customers for engineering, procurement, and construction projects in India’s metals sector. L&T and SAIL have worked together for decades on large-scale metallurgical projects, contributing to the growth and modernization of India’s steel industry. The latest orders build on that long-standing relationship and support SAIL’s capacity expansion plans.
As part of its modernization programme, SAIL will increase crude steel production capacity at the IISCO Steel Plant in Burnpur, West Bengal, from 2.5 million tonnes per annum to 6.5 million tonnes per annum. L&T has been awarded the complete engineering, procurement, and installation scope for several core process units, including the Coke Oven Battery, By-Product Plant, Basic Oxygen Furnace, and key material handling systems for the new steel complex.
In addition, SAIL’s Bokaro Steel Plant in Jharkhand is undergoing a major upstream expansion. L&T will execute the establishment of Sinter Plant No. 2, further strengthening its role in India’s steel manufacturing sector. Beyond SAIL projects, L&T has also secured multiple orders from other Indian customers for specialized material handling equipment such as stacker reclaimers and wagon tipplers, reflecting its technical capabilities across the minerals and metals value chain.
Commenting on the new orders, DK Sen, Advisor to the CMD for Development Projects and Minerals & Metals at L&T, said the company remains deeply committed to supporting India’s industrial growth. He noted that the projects align with national goals of strengthening domestic steel production through advanced, safe, and sustainable infrastructure.
T Kumaresan, Senior Vice President and Head of Minerals & Metals at L&T, said the repeat orders reaffirm customer confidence in L&T’s ability to deliver complex, technology-driven projects on tight schedules. He added that the wins demonstrate L&T’s end-to-end execution strength and consistent adherence to project timelines.
