Larsen & Toubro’s (L&T) Hydrocarbon Onshore business has secured a major engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) contract from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) for a large-scale petrochemical project at Bina, Madhya Pradesh. The scope of work includes the execution of a Linear Low-Density Polyethylene and High-Density Polyethylene (LLDPE/HDPE) swing unit comprising two production trains, each with a capacity of 575 KTPA. The project will be delivered on a lump-sum turnkey basis and, once completed, will represent India’s largest LLDPE/HDPE swing unit, establishing a new benchmark in domestic polyethylene manufacturing.
The project forms a key component of BPCL’s Bina Petrochemicals and Refinery Expansion Project, which aims to develop a fully integrated petrochemical complex and expand refinery capacity from 7.8 million metric tonnes per annum to approximately 11 million metric tonnes per annum. The initiative aligns with the Government of India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision by enhancing domestic polymer production and reducing import dependence.
