JSW Steel reported consolidated crude steel production of 24.65 lakh tonnes for August 2026, registering a growth of 3% compared with the same month last year. The company said capacity utilisation at its Indian operations stood at 88% during the month.
JSW Steel is the flagship business of the diversified US$25 billion JSW Group and is one of India’s leading integrated steel producers. Over the past three decades, the company has grown from a single manufacturing unit into a major steel producer with operations across India and overseas.
The company currently has a combined crude steel capacity of 37.9 million tonnes per annum, including 4.5 million tonnes through its joint venture with Japan’s JFE Steel. JSW Steel has outlined plans to increase its combined capacity to 54.8 million tonnes per annum over the next four years as part of its next phase of expansion.
Its Vijayanagar plant in Karnataka remains the largest single-location steel-producing facility in India, with a current capacity of 19.5 million tonnes per annum. The company is expanding the facility to around 25 million tonnes per annum by FY30, which is expected to make it one of the world’s largest steel plants.
JSW Steel has also continued to focus on technology and product development. Its strategic collaboration with JFE Steel gives the company access to advanced technologies for manufacturing high-value and special steel products. These products serve sectors including construction, infrastructure, automobiles, electrical applications and consumer appliances.
The company has received several recognitions for its business and sustainability performance. JSW Steel has been named a WorldSteel Steel Sustainability Champion for eight consecutive years from 2019 to 2026. Its Vijayanagar and Salem facilities have also received the Deming Prize for Total Quality Management. Four of JSW Steel’s operations are now ResponsibleSteel certified, covering more than 80% of its domestic crude steel production.
The company has set targets to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from its steelmaking operations by 42% by 2030. It has also committed to achieving net-neutral carbon emissions for operations under its direct control by 2050. Other sustainability goals include improving air quality, reducing water consumption, maintaining Zero Liquid Discharge and working towards no net loss of biodiversity at operating sites by 2030.
JSW Steel’s August production performance comes as the company continues to expand manufacturing capacity while investing in technology, product development and sustainability. The company remains focused on meeting the growing demand for steel across key sectors while strengthening its position as one of India’s leading integrated steel producers.
