HCLTech has announced its entry into the full-stack Artificial Intelligence (AI) market with plans to invest up to ₹3,500 crore to establish AI-focused data centers, marking a significant expansion of its AI infrastructure and digital services portfolio. The investment is aimed at addressing the growing demand for AI-led solutions across enterprises and government organizations while positioning HCLTech as an end-to-end provider of AI infrastructure, platforms, cloud operations and managed services.

The proposed AI data centers will have the potential to scale up to 50 megawatts (MW) of capacity to support AI training, inference and high-performance computing workloads. The investment will be undertaken through a newly formed subsidiary and its step-down subsidiaries, which will focus on developing and operating the AI infrastructure business.

The initiative builds on HCLTech’s existing strengths in AI data center design, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, AI cloud operations and software platforms. By combining infrastructure with its established digital engineering and technology capabilities, the company aims to offer integrated AI solutions covering the entire technology stack, from infrastructure deployment to enterprise applications and managed services.

India’s rapidly expanding digital economy continues to drive demand for advanced computing infrastructure. Rising adoption of artificial intelligence, increasing data localization requirements and growing deployment of Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) for AI applications are accelerating investments in next-generation data centers across the country. Industry estimates indicate that India’s data center capacity is expected to increase from the current 1.8 GW to between 5 GW and 7 GW by 2030, with AI-ready facilities accounting for a significant share of future capacity additions.

Commenting on the announcement, C Vijayakumar, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of HCLTech, said the convergence of rising AI adoption, infrastructure demand and digital sovereignty requirements is creating a significant opportunity for integrated AI technology providers. He noted that the company’s expansion into AI data centers will strengthen its ability to deliver higher-value AI-ready solutions while enhancing managed services and outcome-based offerings for global customers.

The new business is expected to complement HCLTech’s existing portfolio spanning artificial intelligence, digital transformation, engineering services, cloud computing and enterprise software, enabling customers to accelerate AI adoption through a unified technology ecosystem.

HCLTech operates in more than 60 countries with a workforce of over 223,000 professionals. The company serves clients across industries including financial services, manufacturing, healthcare, life sciences, technology, semiconductors, telecommunications, retail, consumer goods, mobility and public services. For the 12 months ended June 2026, HCLTech reported consolidated revenues of US$14.8 billion, underscoring its position among the world’s leading technology services companies. The latest investment reflects the company’s long-term strategy to expand its AI capabilities and strengthen its presence in one of the fastest-growing segments of the global technology industry.
