Greaves Cotton Limited, an engineering company with more than a century and a half of technical heritage, has entered into a strategic association with the Ligier Group, a leading European producer of light and heavy quadricycles. As part of this collaboration, Greaves has developed the 499cc REVO D+ diesel engine—certified to Euro V+ standards—which now powers Ligier’s new JS50 and Myli microcar models. The partnership underscores India’s rising position as a dependable global contributor of modern, regulation-ready automotive technologies.
These engines, designed and built at Greaves’ advanced manufacturing hub in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, are already being deployed across Ligier’s portfolio sold in France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden, Latvia, Greece, Lithuania, Estonia, and the Czech Republic. The single-cylinder, 4-stroke engine, equipped with electronic fuel injection, delivers 6.0 kW at 3000 rpm and 26 Nm of torque in the 1800–2200 rpm band. Its compact architecture ensures strong fuel efficiency, excellent NVH characteristics, and dependable operation—qualities that have contributed to its acceptance across European markets.
Meeting Euro V+ requirements demanded stringent quality procedures, including endurance trials, extreme-temperature testing, lifecycle validation, and emissions checks aligned with international norms. The successful certification demonstrates Greaves Cotton’s ability to deliver powertrains that satisfy the strict environmental and performance benchmarks prevalent in advanced global markets. With Europe’s broad range of driving conditions and high user expectations, the smooth integration of these engines across multiple countries affirms the company’s competence in developing products suited for challenging environments.
Greaves’ approach extends beyond designing engines to creating a complete control ecosystem for the vehicle, strengthening its role as an engineering solutions partner for global OEMs. This shift reflects the company’s evolution from an engine supplier to a provider of comprehensive mobility technology tailored for sophisticated international markets.
Commenting on the collaboration, Parag Satpute, Managing Director and Group CEO of Greaves Cotton Limited, said: “Our work with Ligier marks a proud moment for us, as a Made-in-India powertrain is enabling mobility solutions across Europe. It highlights our engineering strengths, our focus on customer needs, and our commitment to delivering world-class quality from our Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar facility. As a global OEM partner, we remain dedicated to solutions that meet the highest demands for performance, efficiency, and environmental responsibility.”
Christian Dujardin, CEO of Ligier Group, added: “Our association with Greaves has been defined by strong teamwork and trust. Together we have brought to market the 499cc REVO D+ engine—modern, efficient, and dependable—meeting current regulations and customer expectations.”
