Google has commenced construction of its flagship AI hub in Visakhapatnam, marking a major step in its long-term investment in India’s digital ecosystem. The project, the company’s largest in the country to date, underscores its commitment to supporting India’s economic growth and technology ambitions.

The foundation ceremony took place at Tarluvada in the presence of key leaders including Ashwini Vaishnaw, N Chandrababu Naidu, Nara Lokesh, alongside industry representatives from Google Cloud, Adani Group, and Bharti Enterprises. The initiative is being developed in collaboration with AdaniConnex and Nxtra by Airtel.

The AI hub forms part of a $15 billion investment plan spanning 2026 to 2030, aimed at building a comprehensive artificial intelligence ecosystem aligned with India’s “Viksit Bharat 2047” vision. The project includes the country’s first gigawatt-scale AI infrastructure, comprising three data centre campuses supported by advanced connectivity and clean energy initiatives.

Speaking at the event, AshwiniVaishnaw highlighted the project as a reflection of India’s ambition to emerge as a global technology leader, noting that the development, along with subsea cable connectivity in Visakhapatnam, will play a vital role in strengthening digital infrastructure. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu described the initiative as a catalyst for innovation, employment, and investment, positioning Andhra Pradesh as a key destination in the global technology landscape.

Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, said the project represents a significant step in building an AI-driven future for India, enabling new economic opportunities and fostering collaboration across sectors. Industry leaders from Adani Group and BhartiAirtel emphasized the importance of large-scale infrastructure, clean energy integration, and high-speed connectivity in enabling next-generation digital services.

Beyond infrastructure, the AI hub is expected to deliver long-term social and economic benefits. The initiative includes programs focused on water conservation, community development, digital inclusion, and workforce training. Partnerships with organizations such as Sponge Collaborative, Sambhav Foundation, ChangeX, and Learning Links Foundation aim to support local communities through skill development, entrepreneurship, and sustainable livelihoods.

A key highlight of the event was the Bharat AI Shakti Conclave, organized in partnership with the Andhra Pradesh government. The forum brought together industry stakeholders to explore opportunities for building a strong regional technology ecosystem and integrating local enterprises into global value chains. With this development, Google aims to strengthen India’s position in the global AI landscape while driving inclusive growth, innovation, and long-term economic resilience.
