EFE Trenes de Chile has introduced the S3 Passenger platform from Sqills, a Siemens Mobility company, to modernise ticket sales, reservations and inventory management for EFE Central’s mainline passenger services. The platform went live on July 22 following a six-month implementation. It is the first S3 Passenger deployment in South America and forms part of EFE’s wider programme to strengthen rail connectivity and digital services. The system is designed to provide passengers with a faster and simpler way to purchase tickets, manage bookings and plan journeys.

S3 Passenger is an AI-enhanced Software-as-a-Service platform designed for long-distance rail and bus operators. It provides tools for reservations, inventory management and dynamic pricing while supporting real-time booking changes and self-service functions.

“We are honored to be a trusted partner in EFE’s digital transformation journey. By implementing S3 Passenger, EFE is equipped with the operational agility needed to scale their services and meet the growing demand for rail travel in Chile – supporting them in tripling ridership by 2030,” said Devina Pasta, CEO, Siemens Mobility Software.

The new platform gives passengers greater control over their travel arrangements. Customers can modify bookings, request assistance and access clearer information throughout the purchasing process. Additional services can also be added to bookings, including extra baggage, pet travel, preferred window seats, meals and seat upgrades. CS3 Passenger also supports connecting journeys through a single ticket. This includes travel to destinations such as Constitución from different points of origin. The platform also allows parents to purchase seats for children travelling with them.

Paula Fernández, Passengers Director at EFE Central, said the company was focused on improving the passenger experience from the initial planning stage through to ticket purchase and after-sales support. The new platform is intended to make services simpler, more accessible and more personalised while increasing self-service options.

For EFE, the digital upgrade also improves commercial and operational processes. The operator can issue vouchers and introduce promotional fares through the platform. It also reduces manual processes, including cash management at stations, allowing employees to spend more time assisting passengers.

The system incorporates accessibility features, including dedicated spaces for passengers using wheelchairs. These measures are intended to support a more inclusive travel experience across EFE Central’s services. The implementation covers several important EFE Central operations, including the Chillán line, Talca-Constitución service and tourist trains. The project brings EFE’s passenger technology closer to systems used by major rail operators internationally.

The deployment also strengthens Siemens Mobility’s presence in Latin America. The company has been involved in major rail modernisation projects across the region, including automation, electrification and digitalisation initiatives. In Chile, Siemens Mobility has also been awarded a project by EFE Trenes de Chile to implement the country’s first ETCS Level 2 signalling system. Together, the initiatives are supporting the digital transformation and modernisation of Chile’s railway network.

Siemens Mobility is a separately managed company of Siemens AG, providing rolling stock, rail automation, electrification, software, turnkey systems and related services. In fiscal 2025, Siemens Mobility reported revenue of €12.4 billion and employed around 43,400 people worldwide.
