Copeland Launches ZF/ZFI 10–20HP Scroll Compressors for Low-Temperature Cold Chain Applications

manufacturing news

Copeland, a global provider of compression technologies and controls solutions, has announced the launch of its ZF/ZFI 10–20HP scroll compressors, developed to support low-temperature cold chain applications across the food industry. The new compressor range is designed to deliver reliable cooling performance while helping businesses improve operational efficiency, lower costs, and meet increasingly stringent sustainability requirements.

Cold chain infrastructure plays a vital role in protecting food quality and safety while reducing food loss across the supply chain. Efficient refrigeration systems are also critical for meeting the growing demand for food while lowering environmental impact. According to a report by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Sustainable Cooling in the Asia-Pacific region, refrigeration systems contribute nearly 35% of hydrofluorocarbon (HFC)-related cooling emissions. Improving refrigeration efficiency and adopting advanced technologies will therefore be essential for supporting regional decarbonization targets.

Copeland’s newly introduced ZF/ZFI compressor line reflects the company’s continued focus on enabling a more sustainable and efficient cold chain ecosystem. The compressors are designed to deliver consistent performance in demanding low-temperature environments while helping operators reduce energy consumption and environmental impact.

“Drawing on decades of experience in cold chain technologies, our goal is to develop solutions that help customers address evolving industry challenges,” said Tarun Singh, Senior Director – Cold Chain, APAC and IMEA at Copeland. “The ZF/ZFI 10–20HP scroll compressors expand our application coverage while delivering reliability, durability, and energy efficiency. Advanced compression technologies combined with intelligent electronics enable our customers to improve system performance and reduce emissions.”

Available in 10 to 20 horsepower configurations, the compressors operate across a temperature range of –45°C to 7°C, making them suitable for cold rooms, food storage facilities, supermarkets, food retail environments, and light industrial applications. The compressors feature Copeland’s dual-compliant scroll technology, designed to enhance reliability by optimizing moving components and improving lubrication. Integrated electronics enable advanced diagnostics that support preventative maintenance and reduce service costs.

Energy efficiency is supported through Enhanced Vapor Injection (EVI) technology, which improves cooling performance while lowering energy consumption. Optional vapor or liquid injection configurations allow systems to maintain capacity even under demanding operating conditions.

The compressors are compatible with both conventional HFC refrigerants and low-global-warming-potential HFO refrigerants, including R-448A and R-449A. Their compact design and low noise levels also make them suitable for installations where space and sound limitations are important considerations.

In addition to the compressors themselves, Copeland has introduced an integrated solution with advanced electronic controls designed to enhance performance in low-temperature applications. The system includes discharge temperature protection, motor safeguards, oil monitoring and return management, and low oil level protection.

Bluetooth connectivity enables easier commissioning and troubleshooting through mobile devices, allowing technicians to diagnose and address issues more quickly. With more than 200 million installations worldwide, Copeland continues to support the HVAC, cold chain, and industrial sectors with technologies designed to improve efficiency, protect valuable products, and support the global transition toward more sustainable energy systems.
