Castrol India Limited has expanded its flagship social initiative, Sarathi Mitra, with the launch of “Highways as Classroom”, a mobile learning programme aimed at empowering truck drivers across Uttar Pradesh. As part of the first phase, a specially designed training vehicle will travel to 46 locations across the state, delivering on-ground education and engagement directly to the trucking community.
Truck drivers play a vital role in India’s logistics and supply chain, yet often face challenges such as road safety risks, health concerns, demanding working conditions, and limited access to financial and digital education. Through the Sarathi Mitra mobile classrooms, Castrol India aims to meet drivers where they operate, offering practical learning opportunities along highways and rest stops.
The programme focuses on promoting safer driving practices and improving physical and mental well-being. It also places strong emphasis on financial awareness, helping drivers manage their earnings more effectively and plan for their families’ long-term security. By bringing education closer to drivers’ daily routes, the initiative seeks to make learning more accessible and relevant.
In addition to the mobile classrooms, Castrol is strengthening the initiative through Digital Sarathi Mitra, an online platform that provides anytime access to training modules, essential information, and skill-building resources. Together, the physical and digital formats are designed to create a more inclusive and future-ready support ecosystem for India’s trucking workforce.
Commenting on the initiative, Kedar Lele, Managing Director of Castrol India Limited, said that truck drivers form the backbone of the nation’s logistics network. He noted that through Sarathi Mitra, Castrol aims to support their overall development, enabling them to drive safely and lead healthier lives. The addition of mobile and digital learning formats, he said, represents a deeper commitment to delivering meaningful and sustainable impact for the trucking community.
Launched in 2017, the Sarathi Mitra programme has already reached more than 250,000 truck drivers across India, equipping them with essential life skills to improve their livelihoods and well-being. With the introduction of Highways as Classroom, Castrol India continues to demonstrate its commitment to investing beyond products—supporting safer roads, stronger families, and a more resilient logistics ecosystem.
