BorgWarner has landed a new programme to supply its advanced 7-in-1 Integrated Drive Module (iDM) to a prominent Chinese vehicle manufacturer. Developed specifically for the OEM’s upcoming hybrid SUV, the unit merges several propulsion functions into one compact system. Volume production is expected to begin in 2026.
Dr Stefan Demmerle, President and General Manager of BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems, commented:
“Our experience in both components and complete systems enables us to engineer an efficient, tailor-made iDM solution for hybrid platforms. We’re pleased to collaborate with a key industry player in this market.”
The 7-in-1 iDM brings together two electric motors using BorgWarner’s patented high-voltage hairpin winding, a dual inverter with built-in on-board charger, a DCDC converter, battery voltage boost capability, a vehicle control unit, a power distribution unit, and an eGear transmission. This high-density integration allows flexibility in design while enhancing performance and energy efficiency.
The module supports outputs of up to 160 kW, operates at a peak voltage of 450 V, generates more than 3,400 Nm of peak torque, and reaches a maximum speed of 1,350 r/min. BorgWarner’s comprehensive portfolio—spanning electric motors, power electronics, and transmissions—enables fully integrated propulsion systems designed around customer requirements. Backed by robust engineering expertise and close technical cooperation with automakers, the company continues to support advancements in electrified mobility and contribute to the fast-growing hybrid and EV sector.
