BEML Limited has introduced India’s first indigenously developed 35-ton electric dump truck at its Mysuru facility, marking a significant advancement in sustainable mining equipment. The vehicle was unveiled by Shantanu Roy, Chairman and Managing Director, in the presence of senior leadership and project partners.
The new electric dump truck is designed to support mining and infrastructure operations while reducing environmental impact. Built to global engineering standards, the platform aligns with India’s sustainability and emissions reduction goals and reflects BEML’s continued focus on clean technology solutions.
Powered by a high-efficiency Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor, the truck is engineered for demanding mining conditions. It offers a payload capacity of 35 tons and a gross vehicle weight of approximately 60 tons, making it suitable for heavy-duty applications and repetitive stop-start cycles typical in mining environments.
The electric drivetrain delivers significantly higher energy efficiency compared to conventional diesel-powered equipment. A regenerative braking system enables energy recovery during operations, particularly on downhill terrain, improving overall efficiency. The truck is equipped with a 300 kWh lithium-ion battery supported by a liquid-cooled Battery Thermal Management System, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and extended battery life.
In addition to environmental benefits, the platform is designed to reduce operating costs. Lower energy consumption and reduced maintenance requirements contribute to substantial cost savings over time. Depending on usage conditions, operators can expect a relatively short payback period, making the solution commercially viable for large-scale operations.
The vehicle is also equipped with safety-focused features, including high-grade protection for electrical systems and integrated fire protection mechanisms. Charging infrastructure solutions offered by BEML support rapid charging, enabling the battery to reach up to 80 percent capacity within 60 to 90 minutes, helping maintain operational continuity.
This launch highlights BEML’s ongoing efforts to develop advanced, locally engineered solutions for critical sectors. By introducing electric alternatives for heavy equipment, the company aims to contribute to cleaner and more efficient mining practices while strengthening India’s capabilities in sustainable industrial technologies.
