SWITCH Mobility, part of the Hinduja Group, has commenced deployment of its EiV12m electric intercity coaches with the rollout of the first 10 units for Prasanna Purple Mobility Solutions. The flag-off ceremony was held in the presence of Madhuri Misal, Minister of State, Government of Maharashtra.
This marks SWITCH Mobility’s first intercity coach deployment for a private operator and signals Prasanna Purple Mobility Solutions’ entry into electric intercity transport. The buses are being introduced on the Mumbai–Pune corridor in collaboration with Vertelo. The full order includes 25 electric coaches, with additional deliveries scheduled through the year.
The Mumbai–Pune route is among the busiest intercity travel corridors in India, and the introduction of electric coaches is expected to support a shift toward cleaner and more efficient transportation. The deployment reflects increasing adoption of electric mobility solutions for high-frequency, long-distance routes.
The EiV12m coach is designed specifically for intercity travel, offering a balance of range, efficiency, and passenger comfort. It is equipped with 45 pushback seats, delivers a range exceeding 300 kilometers on a single charge, and supports fast-charging capabilities to minimize downtime. Advanced safety features and a low-noise cabin enhance the travel experience, while SWITCH iON connected technology enables real-time monitoring and operational insights.
Ganesh Mani, CEO of SWITCH Mobility, said the deployment highlights growing confidence in electric buses for demanding intercity routes. He noted that the company is focused on expanding its presence beyond urban mobility and building scalable solutions that meet both operational and passenger expectations.
Prasanna Patwardhan, Chairman and Managing Director of Prasanna Purple Mobility Solutions, stated that entering the intercity electric segment represents an important milestone. He added that the collaboration aims to deliver a more sustainable and efficient travel option while improving overall passenger experience.
SWITCH Mobility has recorded over 185 million electric kilometers globally and deployed more than 2,500 electric buses in India. The company continues to expand across city and intercity mobility segments, supporting the transition toward cleaner transportation systems. SWITCH Mobility develops electric buses and light commercial vehicles, combining engineering expertise with advanced technologies to deliver solutions that support sustainable mobility and operational efficiency across global markets.
