Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam, inaugurated the 70 MW Dhubri Solar Power Project developed by SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN Limited. The event was attended by state government officials, senior representatives from SJVN and Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL).
The project has been developed on 330 acres of land leased from APDCL for a period of 28 years and is located at Khudigaon Pt-II in Dhubri district. The project was awarded to SGEL in February 2023 through a tariff-based competitive bidding process at a tariff of ₹3.92 per unit. The EPC cost of the project is ₹367.44 crore.
The solar plant is expected to generate 141.13 million units of electricity in its first year, with an estimated cumulative generation of approximately 3,230 million units over 25 years. The project is projected to reduce carbon emissions by around 158,270 tonnes during its operational life.
This is Assam’s first large-scale solar power project and SJVN’s first operational renewable energy project in the North-Eastern region. The foundation stone was laid virtually by the Prime Minister of India in March 2024.
SJVN stated that the project will contribute to Assam’s renewable energy capacity while supporting employment during construction and operation. SJVN Limited is a public sector enterprise engaged in power generation and transmission, with a primary focus on renewable and hydroelectric energy.
