Avio Smart Market Stack Limited (ASMS), formerly known as Bartronics India Limited, has expanded its collaboration with Huwel Lifesciences to introduce a portfolio of patented molecular diagnostic products across healthcare institutions in India. The collaboration follows a recently signed shareholders’ agreement between the two companies aimed at scaling advanced diagnostic technologies and expanding their reach across public health programmes, hospitals, laboratories and private healthcare providers.
Huwel Lifesciences has developed several proprietary diagnostic platforms and continues to build a strong pipeline of new technologies. Its capabilities include RT-PCR diagnostic kits, point-of-care molecular testing devices and disease detection panels designed for large-scale clinical use. Research, assay development and manufacturing operations are carried out at the company’s in-house facilities.
The company positions itself as a domestic innovator in molecular diagnostics, with the ability to design, develop and manufacture a majority of components for its diagnostic platforms locally. This approach supports India’s broader “Make in India” initiative and reduces reliance on imported diagnostic technologies.
India remains one of the world’s largest markets for infectious disease testing. National health programmes and institutional healthcare networks conduct tens of millions of diagnostic tests annually for diseases such as tuberculosis, HIV, hepatitis and other infectious conditions. The combined diagnostics market for these diseases alone is estimated to exceed ₹5,000 crore each year.
Huwel’s molecular diagnostic solutions are designed to enable rapid and cost-effective tuberculosis detection using open RT-PCR systems. These tests can be run on the RT-PCR laboratory infrastructure widely deployed across India during the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing healthcare institutions to scale testing without requiring major new investments.
The company’s tuberculosis diagnostic platform has already received regulatory approvals and validations. Using the same technology foundation, Huwel has also developed molecular tests for HIV, HPV-based cervical cancer screening, antimicrobial resistance monitoring, hepatitis and other infectious diseases.
Under the collaboration, Avio Smart Market Stack will support commercialisation and institutional adoption of these technologies. The company will leverage its digital infrastructure capabilities and institutional relationships to facilitate deployment across healthcare networks and public health initiatives.
Commenting on the partnership, Vidhyasagar Reddy, Managing Director of Avio Smart Market Stack Limited, said India has a major opportunity to strengthen its healthcare infrastructure through locally developed diagnostic technologies.
“By combining Huwel’s molecular diagnostics expertise with our institutional outreach and digital platforms, we aim to expand access to reliable and affordable disease testing across the country,” he said. “The RT-PCR infrastructure built during the pandemic provides a strong foundation to scale diagnostics for tuberculosis, HIV, hepatitis and other infectious diseases.” Over the coming years, the two companies plan to introduce multiple diagnostic product lines across different disease segments to improve healthcare access across India.
