Adani Defence & Aerospace, the defence business of Adani Enterprises Limited, has commenced work on a ₹2,500-crore missile manufacturing project in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh. The upcoming facility is expected to become South Asia’s largest private-sector missile manufacturing ecosystem, integrating missile assembly with the production of critical explosives and propellants at a single location.

The project will manufacture composite propellants and Trinitrotoluene (TNT), creating an integrated production ecosystem that is expected to strengthen India’s defence manufacturing capabilities and reduce dependence on imports for critical missile components. The investment is projected to generate around 5,000 direct and indirect skilled employment opportunities while creating business prospects for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across the defence supply chain. The project is also expected to reinforce Madhya Pradesh’s position as an emerging hub for defence manufacturing.

The integrated facility is designed to address a key gap in India’s defence production ecosystem by combining material manufacturing, system integration and advanced missile production within a single campus. The company said this approach will support the large-scale production of indigenous missile systems for the Indian Armed Forces.

The foundation stone for the project was laid in the presence of Mohan Yadav, who said the investment reflects growing confidence in Madhya Pradesh as a destination for strategic manufacturing and will contribute to industrial development while strengthening India’s self-reliance in defence production. Jyotiraditya Scindia said the project would usher in a new phase of industrial growth for the Shivpuri-Guna region by creating skilled employment opportunities and supporting the development of a robust defence manufacturing ecosystem.

Jeet Adani said the facility will integrate missile manufacturing with the production of essential materials required for advanced weapon systems, creating a comprehensive private-sector missile ecosystem in India. He added that the investment will enhance the country’s defence preparedness while supporting the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

The manufacturing complex will incorporate advanced production technologies, automated manufacturing systems and internationally benchmarked safety standards. It is expected to support multiple missile programmes simultaneously and cater to both domestic defence requirements and exports to friendly countries.

Adani Defence & Aerospace has been expanding its defence manufacturing footprint since establishing its small arms manufacturing facility in Gwalior in 2020. The company currently manufactures pistols, assault rifles, carbines and light machine guns for the Indian Armed Forces.

The Shivpuri project comes as several next-generation missile programmes developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation move towards production. These include the Next Generation Anti-Radiation Missile (NGARM), RUDRAM-II, Naval Anti-Ship Missile-Short Range (NASM-SR), Long-Range Glide Bomb ‘Gaurav’ and the Tactical Autonomous Reconnaissance and Attack (TARA) system, further strengthening India’s indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities.
