ABB to Invest Approximately $75 Million in India to Expand Manufacturing and R&D Capabilities

ABB has announced plans to invest approximately $75 million in India during 2026 to expand its manufacturing footprint and strengthen research and development capabilities across key business segments. The investment builds on more than $35 million deployed by the company in 2025 and reflects ABB’s continued commitment to its “local-for-local” strategy in one of its fastest-growing global markets.

Currently, around 85 percent of ABB’s products and solutions sold in India are manufactured within the country. The new investment will further strengthen domestic production capacity across the company’s Electrification, Motion and Automation businesses while supporting India’s role as a global manufacturing hub. Over the past decade, ABB has invested more than $230 million in India, underscoring its long-term confidence in the country’s growth potential.

The expansion program will span multiple locations including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Nashik and Vadodara. ABB expects the initiative to create approximately 300 skilled positions across engineering, research, operations and manufacturing functions.

ABB Chief Executive Officer Morten Wierod said the investment aligns with the company’s strategy to support infrastructure development and industrial growth in India. Demand across sectors such as renewable energy integration, grid modernization, data centers and urban transportation has increased significantly in recent years. According to Wierod, expanded facilities will enable ABB to meet rising domestic demand while also supporting customers in neighboring markets.

In Bengaluru, ABB will invest $14 million in its Nelamangala Campus facilities to expand production capabilities and introduce new product ranges in 2026, including advanced electrical protection and enclosure solutions. The investment will also support the scaling of converter manufacturing to address growing demand in India’s sustainable mobility sector, particularly in high-speed rail and metro transportation.

The company’s newly developed Nelamangala Campus 2 will focus on power protection technologies and research activities. Production capacity for uninterruptible power supply systems will increase significantly while the facility will also house rectifier manufacturing, excitation systems and gas analyzer solutions.

ABB will also invest $21 million at its Peenya operations in Bengaluru to expand manufacturing capacity for low-voltage drives and specialized motors. Upgrades will include improvements to high-precision electromagnetic flowmeter calibration equipment to support advanced manufacturing capabilities in India.

In Hyderabad, ABB is progressing a multi-phase laboratory and office project. Phase one includes a $12 million investment and the relocation of operations to a new facility spanning more than 12,400 square meters. Phase two will include a high-power laboratory built on ABB-owned land to support engineering and research teams. Additional investments include $22 million in Nashik to expand circuit breaker manufacturing and vacuum interrupter production, and $6 million in Vadodara to increase capacity for generators, motors and industrial services.

ABB generated more than $1.5 billion in revenue in India in 2025 and employs over 10,000 people across nearly 25 facilities and five major R&D centers. ABB is a global leader in electrification and automation technologies, enabling a smarter, more sustainable, and resource-efficient future. Leveraging over 140 years of innovation and the expertise of around 110,000 employees worldwide, ABB empowers industries to operate with greater efficiency, productivity, and environmental responsibility — truly “Engineered to Outrun.”
