Airbus has inaugurated a new technology center in Bengaluru aimed at strengthening engineering expertise, digital innovation and aviation support services linked to its global aircraft programs. The Airbus India Technology Center spans approximately 880,000 square feet and has the capacity to accommodate about 5,000 employees. The facility brings together engineering teams, digital specialists, customer service operations and procurement functions in a single campus designed to support Airbus’ worldwide activities while deepening its long-term industrial presence in India.

According to Jürgen Westermeier, President and Managing Director of Airbus India and South Asia, the new center will enable Airbus to expand engineering capability while enhancing support services and procurement operations across the company’s global network. Engineers at the center will contribute to the full life cycle of Airbus aircraft and helicopter programs. Their work will include design, development and engineering support, along with activities related to fleet maintenance, aircraft upgrades and operational performance improvements.

The facility will also focus on advanced technologies increasingly shaping modern aviation, including artificial intelligence, robotics, cybersecurity and digital engineering platforms. These tools are playing a growing role in aircraft maintenance planning, performance monitoring and operational efficiency.

The new technology hub is also expected to strengthen India’s aviation talent pool, particularly in fields related to aircraft maintenance engineering and technical services. Airbus intends to use the center as a platform where Indian engineers can gain experience working on global aircraft programs and complex engineering projects.

India’s aviation sector is among the fastest growing in the world. As airlines expand fleets over the next decade, the industry will require thousands of additional engineers, technicians and aviation specialists to support maintenance, repair and overhaul activities.

The Bengaluru campus will also house a local chapter of Airbus Leadership University. The program will provide specialized training and professional development initiatives aimed at preparing the next generation of aerospace engineers, managers and industry leaders.

A dedicated customer services center within the facility will support Airbus aircraft operators worldwide. Services will include technical troubleshooting, maintenance advisory support and flight-hour service programs designed to help airlines maintain operational reliability and minimize aircraft downtime.

The center will also support Airbus procurement and supply chain coordination within India. The company has significantly expanded sourcing from Indian suppliers in recent years, with annual procurement rising to more than $1.5 billion, compared with about $500 million in 2019. Airbus expects sourcing from India to exceed $2 billion before the end of the decade.

More than 100 Indian companies currently contribute to Airbus’ global supply chain, manufacturing key aircraft components including flap track beams, passenger doors and helicopter fuselage sections. Indian industry is also supporting major Airbus programs such as the C295 military transport aircraft assembly line in Vadodara and the H125 helicopter final assembly line near Bengaluru.
