Embraer Defense & Security and Mahindra Group have entered into a pivotal Strategic Cooperation Agreement (SCA) aimed at advancing the C-390 Millennium for the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) programme. The agreement, formalized alongside the opening of Embraer’s new office in Aerocity, New Delhi, represents a significant step in enhancing India’s aerospace and defense capabilities.

This new partnership builds on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed earlier in 2024 and expands the scope of collaboration to include joint marketing, local industrialization, and the development of India as a key hub for the C-390 Millennium. The aircraft has already seen global adoption and is recognized for its advanced capabilities, further solidifying its potential for India’s strategic needs.

Both companies will collaborate with Indian stakeholders, including the military and aerospace sectors, to explore local manufacturing, assembly facilities, and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services. The goal is to establish India as a manufacturing and support center for the C-390 Millennium, catering to both domestic and regional demands.

“This agreement signifies a major milestone in our collaboration with Mahindra Group,” said Bosco da Costa Junior, President & CEO of Embraer Defense & Security. “With India’s dynamic aerospace industry and Mahindra’s expertise in manufacturing, we are well-positioned to deliver a top-tier military transport solution for the Indian Air Force. This is not just a business deal; it’s a reflection of our commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat and deepening ties between Brazil and India.”

Vinod Sahay, Member of the Group Executive Board at Mahindra Group, emphasized, “The C-390 Millennium offers unmatched performance, versatility, and efficiency. By strengthening our partnership with Embraer, we aim to ensure the success of the Indian Air Force’s MTA program and contribute to India’s self-reliance in defense capabilities.”

The C-390 Millennium is one of the most advanced military transport aircraft in its class, capable of carrying up to 26 tons of cargo, flying at speeds of 470 knots, and performing a range of missions, including cargo and troop transport, airdrops, medical evacuations, search and rescue, firefighting, and humanitarian operations. It can also operate from short, unpaved runways and is configurable for air-to-air refueling operations.

With a 99% mission completion rate, the C-390 has proven its reliability and efficiency in demanding environments. Already selected by multiple air forces globally, including those in Brazil, Portugal, South Korea, Hungary, the Netherlands, and others, the C-390 Millennium is primed to meet India’s growing defense and logistical needs.
