Arabian Gulf Steel Industries (AGSI) and Sustain Labs Paris (SLP) have announced a significant new partnership at GITEX 2025, launching the AGSI Youth Microgrant for Circularity. This AED 100,000 initiative aims to empower high school and university students across the UAE to create solutions that address environmental and community challenges through the principles of circular economy. The partnership was officially revealed by Dr Miniya Chatterji, CEO of SLP, and Chanda Hussain, Executive Director at AGSI.

The collaboration marks the first joint venture between AGSI and SLP, both of which share a commitment to advancing sustainability education and fostering innovation among young people. By integrating theoretical knowledge with hands-on projects, the initiative aligns with the UAE’s ambition to cultivate a knowledge-driven economy and inspire the next generation of eco-conscious leaders.

As the UAE’s largest private steel producer and recycler, AGSI is a pioneer in sustainability, with its Abu Dhabi facility becoming the first carbon-neutral steel plant in the MENA region in 2024. Sustain Labs Paris, renowned for its expertise in sustainable innovation, education, and venture building, brings a wealth of experience to the partnership. Together, the organizations aim to lead efforts in shaping a more circular and sustainable future.

The AGSI Youth Microgrant for Circularity provides a platform for students aged 16 to 21 to design and implement community projects focused on sustainability, such as water conservation, material recycling, and waste reduction. By offering financial support, technical training, and mentorship, the program equips participants with the tools to turn their ideas into impactful real-world projects, while developing essential skills in problem-solving, entrepreneurship, and sustainability.

“AGSI has always been committed to circularity,” said Chanda Hussain, Executive Director of AGSI. “We’ve built a business model that prioritizes responsible growth, resource reuse, and emission reductions. This initiative gives young people the opportunity to develop solutions that advance sustainability while fostering creativity, green skills, and environmental stewardship. It’s part of our broader mission to invest in innovation and the next generation of leaders who will drive the circular economy forward in the UAE.”

Dr Miniya Chatterji, CEO of Sustain Labs Paris, shared her excitement about the collaboration: “We are thrilled to work with AGSI, a company that embodies circularity in its operations. This partnership gives students the chance to turn their ideas into action, creating sustainable solutions that benefit their communities. It’s about nurturing an entrepreneurial mindset that is focused on addressing the pressing environmental challenges of today.”

The first cycle of the AGSI Youth Microgrant for Circularity will begin in October 2025, involving 200 students from schools and universities across the UAE. By Earth Day 2026, these students will present their projects, demonstrating the tangible impact of their work on the environment and society.
