Henkel India has inaugurated a Skill Development Centre at Navkshitij in Marunji, Pune, as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives focused on inclusion and skill development. The centre will provide STEM education, vocational training and life-skills development for individuals aged 10 years and above with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The facility is equipped with machinery and tools to provide hands-on training in a range of practical activities. These include plate making, camphor making and incense stick production, along with laundry and ironing using washing machines and ironing equipment. Different moulds are also available to help participants learn to make diyas and pots.

The programme aims to help participants develop practical skills, improve their confidence and build greater independence. It also addresses the need for continued learning and vocational training beyond conventional classroom education, enabling individuals to participate in productive activities and engage more actively in society.

Nilesh R Adkar, Head of Product Development – General Manufacturing and Maintenance, Henkel Adhesive Technologies, IMEA, said, “Every individual deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute meaningfully to society. Through our partnership with Navkshitij, we are creating a platform that nurtures skills, confidence, and self-reliance for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We hope this centre will empower participants to explore their abilities, unlock new opportunities, and lead more fulfilling lives.”

The newly developed hall will also serve as a space for cultural programmes, creative activities, community gatherings and group engagement sessions. The facility is intended to provide an environment where participants can learn together, express themselves, develop social connections and take part in shared activities. The centre also includes a solar facility.

The inauguration was attended by Henkel CSR committee member and Pune site head Dr. Prasad Khandagale, regional managers Pradeepkumar Verma, Dr. Mihir Patel and Dr. Mayur Chaudhary, along with other Henkel employees. Navkshitij trustees Smita Shetty, Pandurang Alurkar, Balasaheb Wayal and Prathmesh Gad were also present, along with students and beneficiaries.

The partnership forms part of Henkel India’s CSR efforts to support inclusive learning and create opportunities for people with disabilities to develop skills suited to their abilities and interests.
