The journey of Kalpna Sharma, Senior Manager at Motherson Techno Tools, reflects a kind of strength that often goes unnoticed. Not all change is loud; some of it is built quietly over years of consistent effort, shaping businesses, strengthening customer trust, and opening doors for more women in manufacturing. In a world that often celebrates visible leadership, Kalpna represents the silent strength that keeps organisations moving steadily, reliably, and with purpose. Through Womanufacturing – 30 Days 30 Stories, her journey reminds us that the future of manufacturing will be built by people who choose to grow with it.

When Kalpna Sharma says, “This is the safest place I have ever worked,” she is not just speaking about physical safety. For her, it reflects something deeper: a workplace built on respect, trust, and the confidence to grow over time. Part of the larger Samvardhana Motherson Group, Motherson Techno Tools focuses on providing cutting tools, machining solutions, and technical support to manufacturing companies across industries. The company works closely with customers to improve productivity, optimise machining performance, and ensure reliability in high-precision manufacturing environments.

Within this ecosystem, where technical performance meets customer expectations, professionals who manage responsiveness, pricing accuracy, and coordination become equally important as the technology itself. One such professional is Kalpna Sharma, Senior Manager – Sales Support & Pricing at Motherson Techno Tools Limited. Kalpna’s journey is not one of sudden breakthroughs or dramatic shifts. It is a story of consistency, patience, and a quiet determination to keep moving forward.

Quiet Strength Behind Speed, Accuracy & Customer Trust

Kalpna Sharma

Starting her career in 2001 as an Office Assistant, she entered an environment where women were few, and opportunities had to be earned through persistence. Coming from a traditional family background, stepping into the professional world was a significant decision, one that required both courage and her family’s support. The daughter of Om Prakash Sharma and Parwati Sharma, and now supported by her husband, Narender Sharma, Kalpna carried forward the values of discipline, sincerity, and commitment into her workplace. These values became the foundation of her professional journey.

At that time, the organisation she joined, Motherson Techno Tools, was steadily building its presence in the cutting tools and machining solutions market. Kalpna began her journey at a time when both the company and the industry were evolving. There were limited systems, fewer structured roles, and very few women in the workplace. Yet, instead of seeing these as limitations, she saw them as opportunities to learn.

She did not restrict herself to a defined role. She observed, understood, and gradually became involved in different aspects of the business. What set her apart was her willingness to take responsibility and her openness to learning, qualities that helped her grow alongside the organisation. As Motherson Techno Tools expanded its operations and strengthened its engagement with customers, new functions began to take shape. One such critical function was Pricing, which directly influences customer trust and business decisions. Kalpna stepped into this role at a time when it was still being developed and gradually built her expertise through hands-on experience.

Alongside her professional responsibilities, she continued her academic journey, completing her PGDHRM from IMT and further strengthening her capabilities. Managing both work and education required discipline and focus, but for Kalpna, learning was always a continuous process. Over the years, her role evolved, but her approach remained the same: stay grounded, stay committed, and keep improving.

The Customer: Where Her Role Matters Most

Today, Kalpna Sharma leads the Sales Support & Pricing function at Motherson Techno Tools as a Senior Manager, a role that plays a decisive part in shaping the customer experience. In the cutting tools business, decisions are often time-sensitive. A delayed response can slow planning, and an incorrect price can affect both trust and production. Over the years, Kalpna has come to understand that customers expect three things from a supplier: quick response, correct and reliable pricing, and balanced value that combines the right price with the right performance.

This is where her role becomes critical. Working closely with her team, she ensures that every enquiry is handled with urgency and clarity. “We have to respond quickly, and the pricing has to be correct,” Kalpna says, emphasising the importance of speed and accuracy in her function. Her focus remains on delivering fast turnaround of quotations, maintaining high accuracy, and ensuring that pricing is fair and competitive. At the same time, she believes that every customer matters, regardless of size. “For us, every customer is important, whether big or small,” she shares.

She recognises that behind every quotation is a production decision waiting to happen. When pricing is clear and timely, customers can move forward with confidence, plan their operations more effectively, and keep their machines running without interruption. For Kalpna, pricing is all about building trust. She believes that when the price is right, transparent, and aligned with the customer’s needs, it creates a strong foundation for long-term relationships.

Her working philosophy reflects this belief: be quick, be correct, and be fair. Through this approach, Kalpna and her team quietly contribute to something much larger, ensuring that customers can operate smoothly, make informed decisions, and rely on Motherson Techno Tools as a dependable partner.

Consistency, Balance & Responsibility

While Kalpna Sharma continued to grow in her professional journey, she was equally committed to her responsibilities at home. In 2005, she became a mother to twin daughters, and later in 2011, to a son. Managing both roles as a working professional and as a mother required discipline, patience, and constant balancing of priorities.

It was not always easy, but she chose to move forward with the same mindset that defined her work: stay consistent and keep going. “It was challenging at times, but with family support and understanding at work, I was able to continue,” Kalpna shares. Over the years, she learned how to manage time, prioritise responsibilities, and maintain focus both at work and at home. For her, growth finding balance and taking responsibility in both roles.

Recently, Kalpna completed 25 years with Motherson Techno Tools, a milestone that reflects longevity, sustained contribution and trust built over time. For her, these 25 years represent a continuous journey of learning and responsibility. “I have seen the company grow step by step, and I have grown along with it,” she says.

Her journey reflects consistency in performance, a deep understanding of customer needs, and a strong contribution to the organisation’s growth. From the company’s early days to its current position as a respected name in the cutting tools industry, Kalpna has been closely associated with its progress. She has witnessed changes in systems, processes, and scale, but her approach has remained the same: stay committed, keep learning, and contribute wherever needed.

Over the years, Kalpna Sharma has quietly built something far more valuable than experience — trust.

Customer Demand Drives Every Action

Kalpna Sharma’s work reflects this belief in a very practical way, every single day. Through her role in Sales Support & Pricing, she ensures that customers receive what they need with speed, accuracy, and clarity. Her ability to balance responsiveness with correctness has helped customers make faster decisions and maintain continuity in their operations.

“We have to make sure the customer gets the right information at the right time,” she says. This consistent focus on customer needs has also contributed to the company’s recognition in the industry, including the Best Delivery Award from a leading customer, reflecting the organisation’s commitment to reliability and performance.

For Kalpna, the connection is simple and clear: When customers succeed, the organisation succeeds. Having spent more than two decades in the industry, Kalpna’s message for women entering manufacturing is straightforward and grounded in her own experience. “Stay strong. Keep trying.” Kalpna concludes, “Challenges will come and go, but you must move forward with confidence.”
