Visteon Corporation has expanded beyond its automotive technology business with the launch of D6Sigma, a new edge artificial intelligence (AI) product line designed to improve productivity, quality and safety in industrial manufacturing. Developed in collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies, D6Sigma combines Visteon’s CognitoAI-IoT platform with Qualcomm’s Dragonwing IQ9 Series processors to deliver real-time AI capabilities directly on factory floors. The platform processes multiple camera feeds locally, enabling manufacturers to detect production issues instantly without relying on cloud-based computing.

The solution is already being deployed across Visteon’s own manufacturing facilities, where it supports applications including automated quality inspection, production line monitoring and worker safety. The company said the internal implementation has helped validate the technology before its commercial rollout to industrial customers.

Sachin Lawande, President and Chief Executive Officer of Visteon, said the launch marks a significant expansion of the company’s technology portfolio. “The expertise we have built in automotive electronics and artificial intelligence is now being applied to industrial manufacturing. Deploying the platform in our own facilities has demonstrated its ability to improve operational performance, giving us confidence as we introduce it to manufacturers globally. Our collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies enables us to accelerate this journey while expanding our AI-driven product portfolio,” he said.

Built for high-speed industrial environments, D6Sigma performs AI inference at the point where data is captured, reducing latency while ensuring reliable performance. The platform supports a broad range of manufacturing applications, including defect detection, production line monitoring, worker safety compliance, assembly verification, automated guided vehicle traffic management and customised AI models tailored to specific factory requirements.

One of its key capabilities is identifying micro-stoppages—brief interruptions in production that often go unnoticed but collectively contribute to significant productivity losses. By automatically detecting and classifying these events, manufacturers gain visibility into operational inefficiencies that conventional monitoring systems may overlook.

Nakul Duggal, Group General Manager, Automotive and Industrial & Embedded IoT at Qualcomm Technologies, said the collaboration builds on the companies’ longstanding relationship in the automotive sector. “Our work with Visteon is extending into industrial IoT, where manufacturers require the same levels of performance, reliability and scalability. Together, we are enabling edge AI solutions that deliver actionable intelligence directly within production environments,” he said.

Visteon plans to offer D6Sigma to manufacturers across sectors including automotive, electric vehicles, consumer electronics, industrial equipment, pharmaceuticals, food processing and other high-volume production industries. Headquartered in Michigan, the company operates in 17 countries and develops software-defined technologies for connected mobility, digital cockpits and intelligent vehicle systems.
